Kitbashing? - ocalicreek - 12-17-2008 SO, Kitbashing threads... Should they live in the Scratchbuilding Forum OR the appropriate scale forum? Thanks, Galen Re: Kitbashing? - Lighthorseman - 12-18-2008 Good question. I was wondering about that too. I'd guess "scratchbuilding". Re: Kitbashing? - Sumpter250 - 12-18-2008 We'll have to discuss this. It used to be "scratchin' and Bashin' ". Re: Kitbashing? - nkp_174 - 12-18-2008 That is a good question. I think of kitbashing as when I take one thing and turn it into something completely different...turning an HO boxcar into an HOn3 boxcar...or turning a 2-8-0 into a 4-6-0. Scratch building is when you create a 4-6-0 without the 2-8-0. I tend to think that there will always be posts of kitbashing in both scratching building and the scale, as well as minor modification posts in the scratch building forum. I think serious kitbashing ought to be funneled into the scratch building forum (especially since most scratch builders use commercial details) while minor "kitbashing", or redetailing/modification as I think of it, ought to be in that scale's area. Re: Kitbashing? - LynnB - 12-18-2008 Somehow I would this kitbashing would be a Child directory of Scratchbuilding directory. Re: Kitbashing? - ocalicreek - 12-18-2008 I agree, if the thread is primarily kitbash oriented (structure, loco, whatever) and the subject is the bash itself, like most 'Kitbash Award' articles in RMC, then perhaps it should live in the Scratchbuilding Forum - whether in a subforum or just as a thread. If it is focused on bashing say, a generic 2-8-0 into a more accurate prototype, then perhaps the scale forum is the better place. I like 'Both-And' solutions. Galen Re: Kitbashing? - thumsup - 12-19-2008 "Kitbashing" Isn't that what you do when it's not working out the way you planed it? Re: Kitbashing? - Russ Bellinis - 12-19-2008 Does "kit bashing" require a bigger hammer than "scratch building?" Re: Kitbashing? - ezdays - 12-19-2008 I usually bash the kits that don't seem to work out for me. My shrink says it does me a world of good, but it plays hell with my fists. :jawdrop: tooges: Re: Kitbashing? - nkp_174 - 12-19-2008 ezdays Wrote:I usually bash the kits that don't seem to work out for me. I used to have that problem...then I realized that I should remove my x-acto blade before bashing it Re: Kitbashing? - HO King - 12-19-2008 What I thought Kitbashing was Was when you could'nt buy a sructure over 3 stories tall in HO because they the company thought in that scale that would be to big so you kit bashed as many kits as you wanted to build a skyscraper. Re: Kitbashing? - BR60103 - 12-19-2008 Maybe a common category called Building? I don't really pay much attention to those titles, unless I need to find if someone wants N or HO advice.
