There really is a big difference between a Pack rat, and a Hoarder.
A Pack Rat knows what needs to be thrown out, and simply doesn't "collect it".

Yeah, I'm a bonafide packrat but have neverr hoarded anything. The only thing I've ever thought about haording was maoney, and I've never had enough of it to make it worthwhile!!

I can relate -- I've saved bits of wood (that can be made into fences or signs), foam for scenery, extra track -- and almost all of it is useful at some point.
I've got 3 small layouts, all in various stages of completion (all are operational), so I've had many left over items to recycle / re-use.
I still try to draw the line somewhere & end up having to trash some odds and ends. But, as you say, you're more likely to need it in the future.
Good suggestion re the old medicine bottles.

I used to build model cars all the time, and never threw parts away unless they were broke. I have a good sized "junkyard" bin with all sorts of stuff, dating back to when my dad and his brothers were building cars in the 60s and 70s

I have used a lot of scrap styrene and scale lumber for details. I save all my scrap wood,it makes nice junk piles.

When I have trouble locating something I KNOW I've saved, I just go out and buy ANOTHER one, and BINGO, it'll show up ! Bob C.
