I'm surprised we haven't bumped into each other at one of these things. Personally though, I don't know how you live in that town. To many hills!

In any event, I look forward to next year then!

Heh, yes there are lots of hills, and Main St is narrow and curves a bit with parking on both sides. But I live in a part of town called "the flats" in the area around the reservoir you see from 287. I can get on the highway without dealing with those hills in winter! I was away during this years open house but was at the last one.

It would be nice if the three of us can get together next year. Maybe an operating session?

I really like the town of Boonton all the old buildings, quaint center of town, a great fishing river (although it looks like Hurricane Sandy changed/destroyed some of it) and now trains. 2285_ 2285_ 2285_

Yeah, Hurricane Sandy did a job on the river in two spots, one of which you can see when driving on 287 north, just before getting to the Main St exit, to the right. Pretty large landslide of the hill into the river, causing a couple homes to be condemned as they may slide down as well. The river also had undercut the shoulder of 287, it was a strange sight to see the guard rails suspended in mid air between supports at either end of the collapse. An even larger slide occured north (west?) on the river which will only be seen by hiking in. If you have walked in that way you would have seen the remnants of the old turntable pit, and the bridge over the river which served the iron mill which made nails around the turn of the century (1900) Nothing left of the mill but some remnants of ovens in the hiiside. Pretty much impossible to tell the Morris canal passed by there. While walking down Main St one day I saw a cool photo in a store of the mills with the armstrong turntable in the foreground and virtually no trees! I had a copy made and it hangs on a wall in my house now.

I'm a little familiar with Dumont, I grew up in Teaneck where one of my favorite things was fourth of July fireworks at Votee park, where the New York Central tracks paased by (on the way to Dumont and beyond) Two things stick in my memory, the sets of Alcos going by with NYC, Pennsylvania and PC units mixed, and the open auto carriers used at the time which were often left sitting on a sidng in Teaneck under Cedar Lane. Kids of course would vandalize the cars.

Star Trak owns Hickory Creek. I'm not certain if it is "he" or "they". If "he", then he was on the car with us and he told me about some of his other projects.

I definite plan to go. I would have gone just for the U34CH alone. Hopefully they'll fix up that E60CH back there sometime.

Cool, would you like to get together beforehand?

Hi Everyone! This years show is Sunday the 20th. I won't be going, but if anyone here is planning on going, let me know, I'd love to have you swing by. I've started dismantling the layout, I still have some operating sections. If you feel like chattiing and having a beer and burger, please do.
