J-Class NW 4-8-4 Southern F7 A and B unit matching the other F7 A unit for an A+B+A lashup Southern E8 Southern GP 50 NS GP50 Thank you for taking the time to look through them all. Re: Herc Driver's Engine Roster - upnick - 03-28-2009 Hi Hercdriver, Great pictures keep them coming My favorite has to be the U.P. SD70 M flag unit still looking for one to join my roster the SP patch looks cool as well. Re: Herc Driver's Engine Roster - Trucklover - 03-28-2009 Dang Herc!! You got a lot of nice locos!!! Re: Herc Driver's Engine Roster - Herc Driver - 03-28-2009 Thank you very much. The SP "Patch" unit was inspired by Deano. His attention to his UP/SP collection gave me the idea. So far, I only have one SP unit patched to UP, and one CR patched to NS. I plan on doing one more CR to NS conversion on a Kato SD80MAC (although technically, the number board Kato chose went to CSX if I remember right). It was way easier than I thought to add decals over existing markings. One day, I'd like to try to kitbash a high hood Southern GP30. I've seen a great technique where you use the rear end of another GP30, cut to the right size, and installed where the box cab would go. But that's a project for way down the road. My hobby skill-set is slight. I haven't used an air brush, barely know how to use a soldering gun effectively, and both skills are needed to kitbash a high hood Geep. Re: Herc Driver's Engine Roster - Sarge - 03-28-2009 Nice roster Herc Re: Herc Driver's Engine Roster - Jesso - 03-28-2009 Great Roster Herc! Was going to list my favorites, but that got very long and I decided that my list was just going to be a relisting of what you have shown. Thanks for taking the time to take pictures of them all! Re: Herc Driver's Engine Roster - Herc Driver - 03-28-2009 Thank you very much. It always interests me to see everyone else's engines...I was glad to finally get some pictures out. I've been unable to really take time and post comments and pictures like I used to. Hopefully, that will be changing soon. I still feel like I owe a great debt to everyone that has been posting here (as well as those that started on the old "the-gauge" and zealot) for inspiration and education. Any diesels that have been weathered or altered were a direct result of looking at the quality work of so many others. There's too many to mention...but so many layouts from some really gifted modelers have had a great influence on me and my boys becoming so enthusiastic about this hobby. Re: Herc Driver's Engine Roster - eightyeightfan1 - 03-28-2009 Nice. Love the GG1. My favorite juice jack! Re: Herc Driver's Engine Roster - Herc Driver - 03-28-2009 That GG1 is a rocket! Give it more than about 50% throttle and it won't stay on the rails of an 11 inch curve (ask me how I know). The decoder install in a snap, but you really need to watch the trucks to make sure they're making contact with the pickup strips. Kato even warns about the problem on their website. But it's a great engine...really sharp. Re: Herc Driver's Engine Roster - Brakie - 03-29-2009 Herc,You have a mighty fine collection.. Re: Herc Driver's Engine Roster - scubadude - 03-29-2009 Hey Herc, Could you post a couple of pics of you entire engine facility?? I am looking for more great ideas from which to steal from! Re: Herc Driver's Engine Roster - Herc Driver - 03-29-2009 I'll post a pic or two of the engine facility...but it's nothing too great. I haven't really attempted to add any features to it. Some slight signage and weathering is all I've done. The fueling station is a kitbash from a ModelPower fueling station. Everything was taken apart and repainted, a few things added/removed. The original ModelPower station was in bright primary colors...I just painted everything silver or grey to dull it down. |
