National day of... - TrainNut - 05-07-2009 Every so often on the radio, I hear the morning DJ's talking about a national day of... such and such. Today (May 6th) was the Great American Grump Out, tomorrow (May 7th) is the National day of prayer, and May 8th is World Red Cross day. About now you're probably thinking... interesting but so what? Well, it just so turns out that Saturday, May 9th is National Train Day!
Amtrak chose May 10 for National Train Day because it is the anniversary of the first transcontinental railroad at Promontory Point, Utah, in 1869. Re: National day of... - ezdays - 05-07-2009 That's really something. I would never have known that. I really had to dig in that site to see if there was any kind of activity there in Utah, and there was: Quote:Ogden, UTI was also surprised to find several places here in Arizona that are helping to commemorate the occasion. I've never been to the RR museum in Chandler, have you? And lest you might forget, May 10 is also: MOTHER'S DAY
Re: National day of... - TrainNut - 05-07-2009 There's a RR museum in Chandler? I'll have to go check it out next time we're on that side of town... might be a year or two though. Yes and of course, we can't forget our dear old mums. Re: National day of... - nachoman - 05-07-2009 RR museum in chandler - lots of interesting equipment, but nothing operating. And go on a cool day, because it is all outside. Re: National day of... - Ralph - 05-07-2009 I've actually seen that museum!!!!! We have friends whose parents live in Chandler and invited us to visit with them a few years ago! RalpH Re: National day of... - TrainNut - 05-11-2009 Today, May 11 is our national Eat What You Want day. Not that everybody in America doesn't seem to do that already. Seems like any fast food restraunt I go to anymore, I order a small Coke and it comes back a 44oz'er. Lately I've been specifying that I want a kids sized drink to get something that resembles a small. It's so small that even with free refills, it's almost impossible to drink too much. Besides, think of all the exercise you get going back to get those refills. Re: National day of... - eightyeightfan1 - 05-11-2009 Not to go off topic here....But.... Its like my railroad. You don't like it.....Don't look at it! Same thing what I eat. I don't need Big Brother telling me whats good for me or not. I know. I do get Discovery Channel, I can read the paper, and I watch the news every night. I don't need to get slammed every day that having a hot dog with the works is bad for me. I know that. Its my choice on what I eat, what I drink. Is going outside to get a "breath of fresh air" any good for you? Not any more. There's so much pathegoens, so much heavy metal floating around in the air, that just breathing can kill you. So don't tell me I have to eat healthy. Besides, even the "healthy foods" are starting to turn up with ecoli on it now. Don't look at me funny in the resturant, while I wolf down my pizza, while your eating a salad out of a glass bowl. Think thats healthy? Ever go in the back and see who's washing the dishes? Now if you'll excuse me. As soon as I finish my cidgerette, I'm going to Micky D's and get a Big Mac, Large fries, and maybe a Quarter Pounder on the side. Re: National day of... - TrainNut - 05-11-2009 Re: National day of... - TrainNut - 05-12-2009 And of course if you did not get enough of eating whatever you wanted yesterday, today is... National Nutty Fudge Day! Nutty Fudge 1 1/2 Sticks butter 1/3 c Evaporated milk 1/4 c Sugar 1 c Milk chocolate 1 c Semi-sweet chocolate 1 c Marshmallow cream 1 c Peanut butter chips 1/2 c Chopped peanuts Blend butter, milk and sugar in a med. saucepan. bring to a boil and then simmer for 5 miniutes. add both chocolates and the marshmallow and blend. Fortunately, my Fudgeaholics Unanimous meeting is tonight... I'll bring a copy of your recipe when I go. Re: National day of... - ray_m - 05-12-2009 Ralph Wrote:I've actually seen that museum!!!!! Maybe us members in AZ. should all get together and visit the museum as a group. Re: National day of... - TrainNut - 05-12-2009 That sounds like fun Ray! I'd be in for it. Too bad it's already gotten hot down here. Re: National day of... - ray_m - 05-12-2009 TrainNut Wrote:That sounds like fun Ray! I'd be in for it.
