didn't really need these, but bought 'em anyway - sgtcarl1 - 11-16-2009 My beautiful wife and I went to a train show, yesterday, in Bluefield, VA. Of course, even though the Dubuque, Davenport, and St.Louis railroad doesn't need any more rolling stock, Well....you all know how it is..... and it looks like there's another "Hooker" in town: then there is this one, since it does say " Dubuque" on the side... Re: didn't really need these, but bought 'em anyway - sgtcarl1 - 11-16-2009 and now, to continue... I don't know when, if ever, Santa Fe painted any of their cars green, but, since it is going into a display, rather than being run much... my wife liked this boxcar, so... gotta love those covered hoppers... Re: didn't really need these, but bought 'em anyway - sgtcarl1 - 11-16-2009 more covered hoppers... not every trackside industry needs large hoppers... meanwhile, farther down the tracks... Re: didn't really need these, but bought 'em anyway - sgtcarl1 - 11-16-2009 and last but not least... Whew!! I don't know who's tired-er... you all from lookin' at these, or me from havin' to photograph them, and then tryin' to get the computer to not mangle every thing!!! Re: didn't really need these, but bought 'em anyway - Dan85 - 11-16-2009 You can never have too much rolling stock!! I know how it is, I picked up a few pieces myself at the show in Batavia, NY yesterday. - Dan Re: didn't really need these, but bought 'em anyway - Ralph - 11-16-2009 Oh yeah! I've done that several times as my full dresser drawers of freight cars will attest! Your pics remind me that I would like more tankers and covered hoppers. Ralph Re: didn't really need these, but bought 'em anyway - nachoman - 11-16-2009 I love the train show misfits! I find it a bit of a challenge to take someone else's junk, give it a few details or TLC, and turn it into a working piece of rolling stock for the layout. Re: didn't really need these, but bought 'em anyway - sgtcarl1 - 11-17-2009 Yes, and there is another train show we'll probably be attending the 28th of this month in Galax!!! Re: didn't really need these, but bought 'em anyway - Trucklover - 11-17-2009 Nice pick-up Carl! I especially like the 55' Centerflows and the shorty Cement Hoppers Re: didn't really need these, but bought 'em anyway - Steamtrains - 11-17-2009 Those new cars sure are nice....but your scenicking is AWESOME...!!! Particularly your lighting....makes verything look so natural.... Re: didn't really need these, but bought 'em anyway - viperman - 11-17-2009 I think I have that green ATSF boxcar. Do you know how old it is? Re: didn't really need these, but bought 'em anyway - sgtcarl1 - 11-17-2009 Steven, I have no idea of it's age. It was not in its box when I bought it. The guy was selling some cars for $4.00 each, or three for $10.00. Couldn't let that go by!! I paid $4.00 each for the large hoppers, and $2.00 each for the smaller ones, and the two tank cars. Not everything from the same dealer. Re: didn't really need these, but bought 'em anyway - sgtcarl1 - 11-17-2009 Gus I just set out a length of flex-track on top of the railing on my back deck! The background is just the plants along the fence between our yard, and the neighbor's! The "light" you refer to is a bird feeder about 20' or so, away. And the lighting was provided by the creator of light! Did you notice the windshield on the left side of some of the photos? That's my now rusting out 1975 Volvo 164E. Re: didn't really need these, but bought 'em anyway - Steamtrains - 11-17-2009 I hadn't noticed those...Now that I see them, they stick out like a sore thumb..!!! You sure got a bargain on those cars.... Re: didn't really need these, but bought 'em anyway - viperman - 11-18-2009 I was given an HO train set for my first Christmas at the age of 6mos. That green ATSF boxcar looks A LOT like one of the cars that came in that set. I still have all the equipment from that first set yet |
