NEW FOUNDRY BUILD - Steamtrains - 12-12-2009 Well, I got going on the new foundry I was kinda' at a loss on how to build, but after a few hesitant steps (ended up using 5-min. epoxy and CA for this), I got the hang of it, and here's where it's at so far..... Started by adding a bunch of angular "gluing" tabs to the sides and fronts.... Then started to assemble the 4 walls... Helps to have a nice bunch of tools to help get the job done... Hope you don't mind the mess on the work bench.... I am now working on finishing assembly of all four walls and preparing the roof sheeting, hopefully will have most of the assembly done tomorrow...Heading out to WallyWorld to get me some gray primer. Will post pics later... Re: NEW FOUNDRY BUILD - Steve - 12-12-2009 Good Gus!.........It will be nice to watch you work What kit is that?....it looks interesting Re: NEW FOUNDRY BUILD - cnw1961 - 12-13-2009 The mess on your work bench????? You are joking, right???????????? It is almost sterile ... you should see mine . Looks like this is going to be an interesting structure! Re: NEW FOUNDRY BUILD - Steve - 12-13-2009 Kurt is right......That is what my workbench looks like AFTER I clean it up Re: NEW FOUNDRY BUILD - LynnB - 12-13-2009 Gus I'm sure this is going to be a very interesting building, with the metal will it be run down and rusty? Keep in mind if needed you can also use 1/8" sq for bracing. Re: NEW FOUNDRY BUILD - Tom - 12-13-2009 I never trust a guy with a clean workbench or desk. Re: NEW FOUNDRY BUILD - tomustang - 12-13-2009 The kit looks nice, can't wait till it's finished Re: NEW FOUNDRY BUILD - Steamtrains - 12-14-2009 Thanks for the comments and pointers,,,, The building will be rusted and blackened, as befits any foundry worth its salt.... I spent the day yesterday painting, and getting the smoke stacks to fit. Will post pictures later.... Re: NEW FOUNDRY BUILD - ocalicreek - 12-14-2009 Does Bush's Baked Beans really count as a 'modeling tool'? Don't get me wrong, I love 'em. Maybe you're using the can as a weight, yeah, that's it, right? Nice work. Looking forward to more! Galen Re: NEW FOUNDRY BUILD - jim currie - 12-14-2009 have built many of the old Sudam kits through the years the firts ones i used a 3lb iron the last i used a restance tool , they make a nice structure i do tend to rust mine up a bit before i assemble though. as for your work bench at least you can see the top i'm not too shure mine has one jim buy the way love the machinist square you use . Re: NEW FOUNDRY BUILD - Steamtrains - 12-14-2009 OK....Another round of pics & progress report.... Here's some shots of the assembled foundry, and you can see the interior has been primed.... Surprisingly enough...it actually turned out squared and vertical....!!! I've also painted the remaining parts (roof and slat supports).... Hopefully I can get something done tonight..... BTW...These pics were taken on the "auxiliary" bench as the real bench was just too full of stuff to accomodate a picture session..... Re: NEW FOUNDRY BUILD - sgtcarl1 - 12-16-2009 Looking really good, Gus!! Re: NEW FOUNDRY BUILD - Steve - 01-12-2010 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
