Thanks again guys! I finished my second N8 this weekend. I entered the first one in the Spring Bash contest so you can see the step by step progress toward completing this type of caboose there. Here are a couple of photos of the two of them together waiting for assignments...

This was a fun project! Next I have a couple of cabooses (one a transfer caboose I bashed a couple of years ago and the other an Atlas N12) that need some extra decal details...

I added COTS and ACI labels to both cabooses mentioned above. I've tried looking up more information about these labels (including what the anagrams stand for!) but haven't had much luck online yet. I know the ACI was an automatic identification system with scanners that read the car as it rolled by. Any one care to fill in some blanks or me?

If you're referring to what those initials represent, ACI is Automatic Car Indentification (KarTrak) and COTS stands for Clean, Oil, Test, and Stencil (in reference to the brake equipment).

Wow Charlie, you really had the opportunity to photograph all kinds of PC equipment!!!!! A year ago I wold have asked "What is that?!" when seeing your photo but I know from this excellent Penn Central Caboose website <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.hebners.net/PC/pcN5K.html">http://www.hebners.net/PC/pcN5K.html</a><!-- m --> that you've captured an N-5K...one of only seven made. The link provides background info for these unusual cabooses for anyone interested!
I actually have a Santa Fe styled caboose like that which could be bashed into an N-5K....the bay window might be tricky...

I built one of those when I use to model Conrail. I got the bay window from an undecorated Walthers bay window caboose kit. It came with 3 styles of bay windows so after selecting the one I needed for the N5K I still had enough parts to complete the Walthers kit. At least I *think* it was a Walthers kit, this was 8 years ago.

I would think it would be easier to start with a bay window and add the little cupola, but then again, this is 20 years too late for my era.
