Seen in the Yard Today - Gary S - 01-20-2010 Re: Seen in the Yard Today - Gary S - 01-20-2010 Re: Seen in the Yard Today - tetters - 01-20-2010 Great shots Gary! Question...is it just me or is that tank car have a slight bow in the middle? I see this on photos of tank cars most of the time and wonder if it is just an optical illusion cause by the photo, because the of the tanks I've seen in person, I don't see that curve. Weird huh? Re: Seen in the Yard Today - cnw1961 - 01-20-2010 Yes, the tank car has a slight bow in the middle. It is a funnel flow tank car. The entire tank is slightly lower in the middle. Like a funnel, the contents flow towards the lowest point ensuring faster, more complete unloading. Maybe the cars you’ve seen in person were all normal (straight) tank cars ... or you need some new glasses? Re: Seen in the Yard Today - Ralph - 01-20-2010 Good stuff! Nice to see some untagged cars along with the vandalized equipment. Love seeing a caboose on the end! Thanks! Re: Seen in the Yard Today - Gary S - 01-21-2010 Kurt is correct. Some are straight, some are slanted in to the middle. Re: Seen in the Yard Today - Brakie - 01-21-2010 Indeed the funnel flow tank cars are constructed with a bow so it can be unloaded faster. For those that may be wondering about that FCRD boxcar. That is the First Coast Railroad that operates over 32 miles of former Seaboard trackage.Start up date was in 2005. Re: Seen in the Yard Today - Gary S - 01-21-2010 I see those FCRD cars down here quite often. They are generally quite a mixture of cars, brown, yellow, blue, in various states of rust and "beat-up-ed-ness." I like them alot! Re: Seen in the Yard Today - viperman - 01-22-2010 [sarcasm]When did railroads stop using the caboose?[/sarcasm] Re: Seen in the Yard Today - LiveSteamer - 01-22-2010 Great Pictures Gary. Re: Seen in the Yard Today - Gary S - 01-22-2010 Thank you sir! Re: Seen in the Yard Today - Gary S - 01-27-2010 More boxcars from the Mykawa yard. I like the ALM cars alot, will probably use them to model some cars. Re: Seen in the Yard Today - Gary S - 01-28-2010 More FCRD boxcars and misc stuff Re: Seen in the Yard Today - Gary S - 01-28-2010 |
