South Shore - America's Last Interurban - railohio - 01-23-2010 Indiana's South Shore is America's last operating interurban. Freight service is run by the privately-owned Chicago South Shore & South Bend Railroad while passenger service is provided by the state-run Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD). Over the past couple years I've made a number of trips to the South Shore to record their operations and equipment. This winter I've posted the results online to share: http://www.flickr.com/photos/railohio/tags/southshore/ Re: South Shore - America's Last Interurban - viperman - 01-23-2010 Wow, I thought the South Shore line died out a long time ago! Re: South Shore - America's Last Interurban - doctorwayne - 01-23-2010 Thanks for those links, Brian. I was pleased to see evidence of the South Shore's continued existence this past summer when I passed through Chicago, although I missed seeing any trains in action. Your pictures, impeccable as usual, fill that information gap nicely. Wayne |
