I love your layout. It is the best modern "shoe box layout" I did ever see. You have a strong influence on my thoughts about my upcoming remodeling. In fact your layout and my visit to Vernon are the reasons to suspend my 1950 plans. I need shoe boxes Wink

Callum,

Thanks for posting these great pictures from your inspirational layout. Every time you post I am more and more impressed by the quality of your work. Thumbsup Thumbsup Popcornbeer

Who makes the Ford stake body/flatbed truck, the one with the white cab and green body and two real axels? (as seen below)

Thanks, Mark

Agreed! Cal has managed to come up with a very nice track plan that fits his available space without excessive track and turnouts and plenty of operating potential. He also has what Larry (brakie) likes to call a "center piece" with his model of the Inland Container plant. That one industry has enough operation to be used on an ISL by itself; and has been: http://oscalewcor.blogspot.com/search/label/NCIR%20TRACK%20PLAN. In addition, he's chosen several other interesting industries that add icing to the cake.

Cal's modeling and scenery work is great too and an inspiration to all of us. Only hope that my future efforts come close to what Cal has accomplished over the past few months.

Re: SSWUP ISL - Build - Len Turner - 01-15-2012

More very nice Cotton Belt work from South Africa! I'm enjoying following your progress.

Note: I lived in Tyler, TX many years ago and watched a lot of Cotton Belt action through Tyler and at the Tyler yard. I live in Lufkin, TX now. There was an 80-mile long SSW line that went from Lufkin to Tyler but was abandoned many years ago. The old ROW is now a hiking/biking path. One can still find some old concrete foundations and footings for the buildings and water tanks. There are also a number of old abandoned sawmill sites all along the line.

Thanks for sharing your ideas and progress.

Very well thought out plan, should be a lot of fun to operate.

Re: SSWUP ISL - Build - SSWUPinSA - 01-16-2012

Thanks reinhard, Ed and Mike and everyone.

I am hoping to get motivated soon on the layout and get some buildings done as well as some greenery.

Mark,

Those trucks are Lonestar models, hard to find! I ordered them online from Lonestar models directly at this page http://www.lonestarmodelsinc.com/catalog/lumber.php
You need to build them up and paint them but they are very cool on a modern layout.

Ed,

You are right, most of my layout is built on the Inland Container Depot as your link shows. This simple plan was what lead me to this design and the realisation that less is better. I have not seen an update on the blog for a while, hope all is well there and hope to see more as his layout developes.

Busy looking at options for static grass application, also going to use a lot of Heki Wild Grass and Deco Grass as these seem to fit the "weed" areas better as I don't ever see much manicured, level grass in the industrial zones, it's all weed and shrubs!

Will get motivated soon I hope.

Also looking for a decent (free) image program that will allow me simple multishot overlays that make the depth of field disapear with digital images, this makes them look so much more life like!

Re: SSWUP ISL - Build - faraway - 01-16-2012

I did find Lonestar trucks at Walthers. But no trucks are on stock. Only trailers can be ordered today.

Re: SSWUP ISL - Build - Southern Tuxedo - 01-16-2012

Callum,

Thank you for the information on the trucks. They are very believable on your layout and help to pull your scenes together in a very realistic manner.

Mark

Really nice modeling!

Reinhard,

Try this website. It is entirely 1:87 scale and they have Lone Star, however it appears they only concentrate on trailers. I assume that they are gradually getting into trucks.

Still waiting for someone to make a affordable $$$$$ bulk trailer????? for transloading

Re: SSWUP ISL - Build - Mark S - 02-03-2012

I have a pair of bulk trailers without the chassis I would be willing to sell. They are made by a man from Canada. They come with complete instructions and all piping necessary. Contact me off list if interested.

Thanks for all the great comments and encouragement guys. feel bad I have not done any modeling in ages but family and work are taking preference lately...

Had some wild grass arrive on the layout as well as a few super trees that need to"grow" still...looks like spring has sprung! Sorry if you getting bored of the lack of progress and only photos!! Sad

Callum,

The layout keeps on looking better every time that you work on it. Please keep the progress photos coming as time allows. This is one of my favorite layout threads and I really look forward to seeing updates.
