Finally worked on Yellow Bonnets - Fifer - 04-27-2011

I finally got up this morning and got decoders installed in the AB set of IM Yellow Bonnets I have had for a while . While I was at it I made a brawbar and close coupled them. I know they were not braw bared but I do not plan on splitting them. They seem to track fine on the layout so may put diaphragms in.

Very nice locos, it'll be fun running those around the layout. I always liked the yellowbonnet scheme, not only because it looks good, but because it is a rare variant to the warbonnet. Thank you for sharing them. I typically prefer Geeps 100 to 1 over F units, but your locos sure are making me want one of those babies! Big Grin

This does bring up some questions I've had on naming the variations. Hope you don't mind me bringing it up in your thread. :?

Obviously this is the warbonnet scheme:

Next up is the bluebonnet scheme:

Now, the following is often called the "bluebonnet" but to me, it is the "freightbonnet." After all, the bluebonnet is the loco in the previous picture. Also, in the freight scheme shown below, the "bonnet" isn't even blue, so why would it be called "bluebonnet"?

And bringing up the rear, the shortlived kodachrome scheme:

I've also heard of a SF loco that was a "greenbonnet"?

Yeah, that must be what I was thinking of with greenbonnet. I can see where the vomit bonnet came from.

I did just read that there was a one time special F unit that was a gold bonnet.

Nice looking F's. Not sure if they still had diaphragms in the post-Warbonnet era. Methinks they may have been removed by the time they received the yellow bonnets.
