3 houses in Poughkeepsee,NY - IndyCity - 07-19-2011 Hello, some weeks ago i started this scratchbuilding projekt. I want to model these three house inclusiv the parking lot. I only have to mirror the scene and started with this house: rear and side walls street side with store Currently I'm working on the middle house. Soon the windows and doors were finished. Then I started the stairwell. rear wall: As far as I am currently. Next: the stairs More pics will follow. Re: 3 houses in Poughkeepsee,NY - FCIN - 07-19-2011 Outstanding! I like that INRD CF-7 too! Great work and very inspiring. Re: 3 houses in Poughkeepsee,NY - Londoner - 07-19-2011 Joerg Excellent work. Am I right in thinking you have fabricated the windows from styrene strip? Looking forward to more photos as you progress. Ken Re: 3 houses in Poughkeepsee,NY - IndyCity - 07-19-2011 Thank you. Ken, you're right. Re: 3 houses in Poughkeepsee,NY - e-paw - 07-19-2011 Very nice work. Re: 3 houses in Poughkeepsee,NY - Ralph - 07-19-2011 Excellent work! The stairways and decks really add a lot of character. How did you come upon houses in Poughkeepsee of all places? Ralph Re: 3 houses in Poughkeepsee,NY - Gary S - 07-19-2011 Welcome to the forum! Very nice work! You chose some interesting structures to model. Looking forward to seeing more. Re: 3 houses in Poughkeepsee,NY - nachoman - 07-19-2011 That's great! Where did you get the print of the store interior? Re: 3 houses in Poughkeepsee,NY - IndyCity - 07-20-2011 Thank you all. Ralph - it's the whole ensemble. When I saw the pic I had the wish to model it. Kevin - that's a simple pic from the net. Mirrored and streched to fit. Re: 3 houses in Poughkeepsee,NY - IndyCity - 07-20-2011 Thank you for you help with my question. Re: 3 houses in Poughkeepsee,NY - Sumpter250 - 07-20-2011 The roof looks like 3-tab ( it's sheets, with three notches cut in the bottom edge, a little less than half way up. ).These are laid down in courses, with the "notches" lining up in alternate courses. How it looks under the shingles would vary depending on when the roof was built, or last rebuilt. Currently, there would be a layer of Tar paper, over plywood sheets, that are nailed to the rafters. GCLaser has sheets of cut strips, as do several other manufacturers, in HO, N, and Z scale, that can be glued in place, one strip at a time. http://74.220.29.68/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=GI&Category_Code=HSR shows the product in HO. Re: 3 houses in Poughkeepsee,NY - IndyCity - 07-20-2011 Thank you, sumpter. So my question has been answered. And that's the result: The attice of the house in the middle wil be modeled as a construction site. Parts of the roof have to be rebuild like after a water damage or so. That idea will bring a lot more to do but it brings "life" to the model. Re: 3 houses in Poughkeepsee,NY - IndyCity - 07-21-2011 Btw: Someone on this board, who lives in or near Poughkeepsee,NY ? Perheaps he can help me to solve the final mystery: On the parking lot there are two stopping positions for cars next to the houses. What are they for ? Re: 3 houses in Poughkeepsee,NY - Sumpter250 - 07-21-2011 IndyCity Wrote:Btw: I'm only guessing, but it looks like they are designated spots for temporary parking while unloading the groceries, kids, or anything else that needed to be taken from the car to the home. I noticed numbers painted, and there are also numbers on some of the other spots - at least the "2" is in two places. They are the only two spots close to the stairways, and one is painted out, as parking there would block the lot entrance, and the "no park" is there to keep vehicles from blocking the "single"( looks like it is the other "1" ) parking spot. I never lived in Poughkeepsie, but my Uncle did, and I have been there many times, when I was younger. After my grandparents were gone, the family celebrated Thanksgiving Day at my uncle's house on Ridgeview Road, about three miles East of the Hudson River. Re: 3 houses in Poughkeepsee,NY - tetters - 07-21-2011 I was thinking that maybe those were designated parking space for some retail tenants on the ground floor maybe? The numbers look kinda goofy too me, almost cartoonish though. I'd be tempted to leave them out personally. :? |
