If you had a $1000.00 spare - AuzzeMit - 01-23-2012 HI.. If you had a $1000.00 spare to spend of Model Railways what would you buy.. (Remember you can't pay bills or your pay it off your credit card) AuzzeMit This should be interesting Re: If you had a $1000.00 spare - MountainMan - 01-23-2012 Structures, probably, followed by turnouts. I have more than enough rolling stock. How about you? Re: If you had a $1000.00 spare - AuzzeMit - 01-23-2012 HI.. Strangely enough I have that much to start building a new layout.. If time I'm going to do it (what I think) is the right way, Plan, build the base boards, track, electrical (DCC), ballast and then scenery and building and then play trains. This is all in theory but I will see how well I stick to the plan. The hardest part is deciding what scale and which country, N Scale USA or S Scale UK AuzzeMit Re: If you had a $1000.00 spare - FiatFan - 01-23-2012 I would seriously consider switching to DCC. Tom Re: If you had a $1000.00 spare - railohio - 01-23-2012 I'd put a down payment on a special run of N scale coal or grain hoppers for my freelance road. Can you say "unit trains?" Re: If you had a $1000.00 spare - Puddlejumper - 01-23-2012 Baldwin Centipedes, or an S-2 6-8-6 turbine. Pretty sure that I couldn't get both with $1000. Perhaps the change could go toward boosting my hopper fleet with H21-H25 hoppers. I need trees.... lots of trees.... grass, ballast... I think I'd exceed $1000 pretty quickly. LOL! Re: If you had a $1000.00 spare - sailormatlac - 01-23-2012 If I had 1000$, I would probably be less productive and less creative. A fullfilled dream is no more a dream... Matt Re: If you had a $1000.00 spare - Ralph - 01-23-2012 I think I'd spend it on a signal system and maybe some operating crossing lights and guards. Anything left over might go to a better quality locomotive or two. Ralph Re: If you had a $1000.00 spare - shaygetz - 01-23-2012 'Nuff said... Re: If you had a $1000.00 spare - tomustang - 01-23-2012 Just a grand is a bit low in todays modeling times, that's like 4 dcc engines or less than 50 pieces of rolling stock. Good idea. I would order a special batch of old-time passenger, mail, baggage and freight cars in N scale. Turn of the 20th century stuff is almost impossible to find even in the Caboose. Re: If you had a $1000.00 spare - nachoman - 01-25-2012 Tools. I'd browse the Micromark catalog. OR, I'd use the money to build a small layout for a non-profit museum somewhere. 1000 bucks is enough to build a layout if you are willing to donate your time. Re: If you had a $1000.00 spare - Sumpter250 - 01-25-2012 A string of arch roof LIRR MP-54s to go with my as yet unpainted G-5, 4-6-0. OR
A vertical mill for making locomotive frames.OR
OK, no, maybe not, but why not ! However much 12 Yr old single malt Scotch $1000.00 would buy......for medicinal purposes ! of course.

Me, I guess I'd spend it on DCC if I had to spend it on my layout. I have too many engines right now to make the changeover, plus I'm looking forward to making a DC control panel. But as you know, money can change one's mind quickly... |
