Re: Deerfield Beach, FL - alcanman - 10-07-2012

Thanks guys.

The disused warehouse has now been weathered and the grass and weeds around it are growing fast in the hot and humid Florida climate.

Here's how it looks..

And finally, a loaded plastic pellet hopper is spotted at the Publix spur.

Re: Deerfield Beach, FL - alcanman - 10-23-2012

I've now completed all the structures on the layout which is now more or less completed. I'm now concentrating on weathering stock, and, of course, operating the layout.

The layout is simple and fun to operate, 3 loaded cars are pulled in from the partially hidden storage track and exchanged for 3 empties.

Here's a couple of pics

On this pic, notice the disused parking lot conveniently placed for the photographer dude to take pics and videos Wink

Mal,

Your layout is looking sweet.

I love it! Your green let me think about some more green in SoCal too.

Re: Deerfield Beach, FL - jwb - 10-23-2012

Reinhard, I'd say the amount of green on your layout is about right for Southern California. On the other hand, the M&ET is maybe 300 miles farther north, and there's more green up there, though the ground in that part of California is still pretty brown. But you have pine trees in the background -- for instance, this is what you see from the BNSF transfer yard to the M&ET at Empire:

We've posted now and then about setting up scenery so that different areas on your layout reflect different places. This could be one opportunity.

Re: Deerfield Beach, FL - alcanman - 10-24-2012

I've enjoyed experimenting with static grass and Heki grass fiber mats to produce the lush green scenery seen in the hot and humid climate of Florida.

Here's another pic showing a lot more greenery,

Here's another pic showing a lot more greenery,

Looks like you have added a whole new sky with clouds too...?
Is it a Photoshop add in?

Mal: If you're looking for a few more trees, this article on modeling slash pines may interest you:

They're very common in central and southern Florida.

Re: Deerfield Beach, FL - alcanman - 10-29-2012

Thanks Paulman, those slash pines look great. I wasn't aware of them until now, your local knowledge is very helpful.

With the layout almost complete and a new camcorder purchased, I thought it was time to try a video of the layout.
As the locos featured are EMD diesels, I thought 'La Grange' seemed appropriate music to go with the video.
