Wonderful shots! Steam-era shots always look better (more authentic) in monochrome, I suppose because most pictures taken in that time were in b&w.

I have a friend who is a professional photographer and loves taking black and white images now. He says if an image is good enough, it does not need colour. 8-)

Thanks for your kind remarks Alan.I also like the effect of black and white shots when photographing steam locomotives.Truth be told, the majority of my shots are actually coloured shots which have been edited. Here's another example

Re: Watch out! Black & whites! - Charlie B - 02-27-2010

Here is a series of pictures from February, 1978. The first train had stalled in Summit cut ( a fairly common occurrence in the PC/early Conrail days) So the power was cut off the following train to get him over the hump. It was normal for many heavier east bounds to have helpers on them. They would put them on at Alliance.

Re: Watch out! Black & whites! - Charlie B - 03-07-2010

I'm sure not posting this for the picture quality, but I thought maybe Ralph needed another project. It was PC 19872 when it was green, an ex New Haven (594) Class N6E which covers everything they didn't have another class for.

Re: Watch out! Black & whites! - Charlie B - 03-15-2010

Ed, those sharks, Funits, Erie Builds, C liner sand a variety of PRR steam, along with a pair of Centipedes if BLI finally does release them in June as promised.
I also have some ALCO switchers that will need to have decoders along with some GP's and some SD'S.
