A One Evening Project. - Brakie - 10-18-2012

Here's a simple gondola load project that is easy to do and costs little..
-----------------------------------
I started this project by purchasing N.J. International HO 6104 Crane Boom Sections there's three in a pack.
-------------------------
Step one is to add scale 4x4" lumber on one side

--------------------------
Step Two add cross members-like real life it doesn't have to be perfect.

-------------------------

Step three would be to add banding-I prefer black 1/16th chart tape.I haven't reach that step yet since I'm out of tape.

-------------------------
When finish my loads will be used in 3 Walthers 65' mill gons and will look like this but, with banding..

-----------------
You could paint the booms but,in my case the receiver(a heavy equipment dealer/rebuilder-a transload track customer) paints the boom as per their customer's order.

Thumbsup Thumbsup Quick, simple, and an excellent load for that car. Thumbsup Thumbsup

For me, lately, a "one evening project" is "half of a detail to be added to the ongoing major construction" 357 357 357

Good to see something so useful, and eye catching, that only takes a short time to do. Thumbsup Thumbsup Thumbsup

Larry,

That is a great idea for a special load. It will add a lot of interest to a train.

I like it! Didn't "One evening project" used to be a feature in Model Railroader?

Guys,
NICE loaded on that gondola! First off!

Then my next question is what did you use for the boom to make the steel webbing? Is it for the most part a kit of some sort? Who made it as thats a REALLY good idea even for a flat car, that would look AWESOME!

NICE work!

N.J.International sells them..The booms are prebuilt and comes 3 in a package for $9.99.

These booms will fit a 50,53 or 60 foot flat car..

Thanks for posting that Larry! I appreciate it and will be looking to spend a few on getting a pack of them! As they do make good looking car loads.....

Wonder if there might be a way to use a section to make a boom longer on an actual crane? Icon_lol
