Whitby Model Railroad Show -- Excellent! - RobertInOntario - 11-17-2012

My son & I went to the Whitby Model Railroad Show this morning and really enjoyed it. This has always been one of my favourite shows and it only seems to be getting better. I was impressed by the number of layouts, the variety of layouts -- ranging from a interesting Z-scale layout, to several N-gauge layouts, quite a few HO and at least one O-gauge layout (that my son was allowed to operate). Not only were the layouts creative and interesting, but all of the operators, vendors and exhibitors were very friendly and chatty.

Unfortunately, we were in a rush -- I could easily have spend another 1-2 hours there. These small city/small town venues are great. Just encouraging any other folks in the GTA to visit this show as it's open again tomorrow. I don't have a vested interest in posting this, it's just a great show!

We're going tomorrow, and I can visit my sister as well.
We're passing up the show at the International Centre this year. It's down to one day and running as an adjunct to the doll and toy show. Our club elected not to participate and do the Brampton show instead.

Hi David,

Yes, the Whitby show is great. The only negative thing I can think of was that there were 2 or 3 layouts that I had seen before. Still, there is enough there to keep an enthusiast busy for 2-3 hours or more. I even saw two British trains running on an N gauge layout.

I'd like to attend the Toronto show but I don't have time today. Too bad it's in decline -- must be due to its high prices & location. It was always one of my favorite shows but it's really downscaled this year.

Same here. Our club also elected not to go to the I.C. x-mas train show. We went to Brampton as well.

I wonder if there's any hope for restarting a Toronto show? How expensive can it be to rent a smaller, less high-profile venue such as a school gym and put on a show in (say) Scarborough or North York?

CANADIAN RAILROAD HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION "TORONTO & YORK DIVISION" crashed and burned when they moved their train show to a school.

The Toronto Christmas Train Show has been on a downward slide for the past few years.

A smaller venue, like a banquet hall would work, but I wouldn't use a school.

And My response: To CARM or not to CARM

The basic premise is that the NMRA Niagara Frontier Region and CAoRM have to kiss and make up. Get back together and take over the Toronto Christmas Train Show.

Interesting. Checking those links now. Thanks.

Rob:
someplace in your files should be the budget for the Great British Train Show. I'm not sure where mine is.

Ron:
I'm waiting for someone in CARM to suggest that I join.
