Mine is about 24 X 12.5 feet.

"Bigger than yours."

Re: How big is your train room - e-paw - 01-04-2013

Roughly 34 feet by 22 feet.
Here's a scan of a drawing of the basement that I did when I was first starting to plan the layout.

The square marked "desk" is the aria that I needed for my workbench.

No matter how big, they are not big enough. My room is 22 X 38 inside dimensions. I could see where 22 X 900 would be almost big enough. Icon_lol

Mine is about 16 feet square -- possibly a bit more on one side.
But I only get 2 feet out from each wall.

My wife has an 8' x 7.5' Lionel layout (and a G loop) inside it.

My work area is a desk in the laundry room. plus storage.

389 sq feet. I would love another 400 sq feet 10X40 addition. My work area is in a corner in my bedroom. About 6 X 6 dedicated but 400 sq feet available if needed.

19x19, with one wall open for wall hangings and a table for my wife to chill and read while I work on the layout. Nope Hopefully at some point the wife will decide the table isn't necessary and that wall can be condemned and rezoned for railroad use. Misngth

Basement, 13' X 20' ( 13' X 3' is workbench/storage/paint booth ) My primary model building area is my "dining room" table (42" dia.) The basement is cold in the winter, and running up the stairs to answer the "sales pitch phone calls", is not one of my favorite forms of exercise. Icon_lol Nope 357 357

a 9x10 spare bedroom... just barely big enough.

Re: How big is your train room - faraway - 01-05-2013

The room is about 13' x 8.8' (4m * 2,70m) and is home of my layout (around the walls) and home office (office desk, chair, computer, printer etc.)

Sounds like it is time to put a phone in the train room

12 x 12....

Re: How big is your train room - FiatFan - 01-05-2013

My train room is just short of 9X13 with a separate shop (about 11X11) for all my tools, both modeling and general household projects.

My wife has offered me another room in the basement but until yesterday I hadn't figured out how to utilize it since it would be out one door and around the corner into another room. Yesterday I figured out that if I put a helix in the second room I could have a bi-level layout. I'm still weighing the pros and cons on that idea. Using the second room would also involve punching a couple of holes in a block wall.
