Cutting Corners. - eightyeightfan1 - 01-05-2013

I had a couple of areas on my layout that were driving me nuts. Poor planning, and bad woodworking created a couple of rough looking places. So when I started to put up a fascia with wood paneling I decided to fix these areas. These are only two.

This is area number two. Notice how close the track comes to the edge of the layout . Just didn't look right.

This is corner 1. After I framed it and attached the paneling.

And after I trimmed and fit the pink Styrofoam. Already a big improvement.

With Sculpta-Mold applied. The hair dryer speeds up the drying.

Well done. A fascia improves the overall impression of a layout dramatical.

Such a small amount of real estate makes such a huge improvement!

Nice modifications Ed! They really improve the appearance of the scenes and also add an element of security for your rolling stock now that the track isn't so close to the edge. Nicely done! Thumbsup

It also makes the benchwork looks more streamlined. It's easier to forget that way.

Re: Cutting Corners. - eightyeightfan1 - 01-06-2013

Real big thanks for the kudos from everyone. Took me awhile, but I did find a picture of what the area looked like.
This was taken 10 years ago. The factory in the foreground was designed to go partially around the wall, with the wall blocking the interior. The wall came down a few years after this picture was taken.

This is the back side of the factory. This too will be fixed, actually..Its been needing fixing since I took the wall down. You can see that it covers a short partition.

Here's the same area as it looks today, 10 years later.

Re: Cutting Corners. - e-paw - 01-06-2013

I like the use of the factory to cover up the partition that sicks up above grade.

Looking good Ed. Thumbsup

Re: Cutting Corners. - eightyeightfan1 - 01-20-2013

Thanks Catt.
Did some more scenery work(before the game of course)on the area. Added a siding that is more for visual interest than operation. Sceneiced(sp?) like it is poorly maintained.

The 0-5-0 will be assigned to this, I can change out cars as I see fit, or my mood.

The edge of my world. Try to make it look like the siding continued on off the layout.
