DPM Fed Ups Freight kit - tomustang - 01-10-2013

Might as well make a thread....

This kit allows boxcars to load or unload from the back, so that eliminates rail cars going in from the front. It came with huge doors for the rail cars to go into and it came with doors that almost allow a trailer to enter, I put the smaller ones on but now Im going to change them to the bigger ones so I can utilize one of the smaller doors with the dock to the right. Perhaps I'll just make the doors docks.

I'm looking at this option:

and one with an adjustable loading dock ramp (non-functional)

How about using a poured concrete footing to raise the building a bit to give your trailers some clearance? Then use a concrete pad in front of the dock doors to give the parked trucks and trailers a solid foundation to park on.

I would but the building is sitting too high to begin with, going to have to raise the surroundings when it gets planted

I reversed the loading doors

I believe the design of the building is probably 1940s or 1950s. Trucks were much smaller then. With that in mind you might try to figure out how the clearance problem might have been dealt with in real life. Possibly lowering the pavement to allow for the clearance. Your bricking the bottom and adding the dock plate is a good idea. The length of the trailer could also be an issue in reality. I don't know how much detail you are looking for but a dock lock would be at any UPS or FED X dock.

I went to Walthers web site to look for a dock lock but no luck. Actually can' figure out how to search there. It would be easy to make one.
