Re: C&D cars - kamerad47 - 02-08-2013

These type of cars are very common ib the northeast US every class 1 RR & many shortlines have a least 1 on there lines ! They are basically a metal building where the push 1 or more of these cars in & rolloff trucks dump construction & demolition waste & it is loaded into the cars with a excavator.

Re: C&D cars - TTRAK_andrew - 02-08-2013

From research on the internet using "C & D " "gondola" I have been able to work out that C & D refers to "Construction & Demolition" waste which is now part of a sorting and recycling process. Part of this process includes the economy of rail transport for bulk commodities.

I had some time today & did some work on my custom built C&D gons, the 1st is a ex C&O Coalveyor now TLAX 10001 , 2nd is a EX BN Coaalveyor now TLAX 10004, & the last is a former bulkhead flatcar now BFTX 11751.

Re: C&D cars - kamerad47 - 05-21-2013

Here is 3 pics of some C&D cars ,the first 2 are C&D gons that I made loads for & covered with orange construction fencing ( that's what I see them do) . The 3rd car is a gondola loaded with old roofing shingles ( the Co has a contract with owens corring to recycle old shingles)

Kamerad

I and no doubt many others are interested in what material you used for the orange safety netting.
