Just got an e-mail from Radio Shack(junk e-mail) they are stocking/ selling Afina 3D printers and filiment spools of PLA plastic by their web site.

Actually, it is ABS, not PLA. The Afinia is optimized for using ABS, which is better for us modelers, as it can be solvent welded to styrene, and paints great.

great storm shelters, reminds me of my aunts place in northern Ohio they have a storm shelter/root celler she used to can a lot of stuff from the garden. The shelter was covered over the roof with sod.

That is interesting printing material (playdough and modeling clay) I bet there would be a market for 3D printers for those who do claymation animation films.

Kent that is awsome doors and windows and all.
I am looking for a 3D drawing program that wont brake the bank but has all the features needed to print to a 3D printer, at the moment I use a combo of Google sketchup , Blender, wings 3D and of course the finale step is Maker ware for the makerbot Replicator 2.
I am leaning towards 3D plan it as they now have features to output to shapeways or any 3d printer.

I just use SketchUp. With the add-ons available, it does everything I need. I have done several things at shapeways, including

Good evening all.
Not much news here,
Been doing some reading (light/entertainment).
Temps are cooler but still unseasonably warm. In the past it has been known to snow flurry on halloween here.
Ran some trains while test printing the latest box car design missed putting details on one of the ends
Got some slice issues solved as I am not 100% profiecent with drawing yet, will post some pics of the latest test print as the panel lines on the sides and the details on one end came out fine but not the rivets 
At least one more revision and then I can go onto making the roof and floor design 
Also started a test drawing on a gondola design(non prototypical)That is about it for today.

Just a note on 3D printers there are several 3D printers on the robot store's website price range $99.00 for a handheld 3D pen to $3999.00 for a tripple extruder(can make muti-color parts with out paint or also print supports from a different material to make complex parts with overhangs).

I know a company that has one of the three head extrusion type. Really makes some thing easier, particularly since the one they have uses different material for supports, and it is much easier to clean up the final product than my prints are. However, he has seen what my little printer will do, and he says the quality of my output is better than his. I am sure mine is slower too, but for what I use it for, quality of the final product is the most important thing.
