Good luck with tomorrow's interview!

Re: Desktop 3D printers - AF350 - 06-20-2013

Well went to interview it went well just have to wait to see if they are going to offer the job opening to me. I think I have a good chance being I can use two of my skill sets on the job.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Found a diagram for a set of trucks that I can borrow from and still make it unique to my design. It will be a bolster that different styles of side frames will attach to.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Design of the box car continues.

Re: Desktop 3D printers - AF350 - 07-03-2013

Update, I got the job position 2285_I start July 8TH .

Will still work on 3D printer as time and cash flow allow.

Need to buy tires for truck then maybe some more plastic for the 3D printer.

May also branch out in scales Z, N, TT, HO, O and maybe even G(1:29) at some point.

Consider me a potential buyer if you go into HO... if you decide to offer your work for sale that is.

Congratulations on your new job, I hope you find it to your liking and are successful!

Dave

Re: Desktop 3D printers - AF350 - 07-07-2013

Thanks all for the well wishes about the new job.

Puddlejumper, it may be quite a long awhile before I can jump into production as I have to figure out a few things about the process with and without using shapeways. I thought about maybe ordering a dozen or so prints and taking them to local train shows to gauge the interest in undecorated semi-kits(very little assembly required) less trucks and couplers. Also need to get setteled in at new job before anything else.

Re: Desktop 3D printers - Puddlejumper - 07-07-2013

Understood. Just make sure to keep this forum informed, I'm sure I'm not the only member that would be interested in buying printed models and helping out a fellow forum member. Cheers

Will keep the forum updated which ever way I go about it.

Thanks all for the encouragement when I am able to procede I hope the models do not dissapoint.

Re: Desktop 3D printers - AF350 - 07-19-2013

New job is going well so far. Spend most of my days off working the yards at 3 houses and other annoying tasks around the home.

Just got the lattest issue of MAKE magazine it is for DIY and hardware hacking electronics type hobby magazine, anyway the back cover is an add for a new 3D Printer called TAZ it is made by LULZBOT. It boasts a build platform size of 11.7" x 10.8" x 9.8" not sure the resolution or how fast or even the cost is but I will be checking on it even being I will not get one as my Makerbot Replicator 2 is fine tuned to where I can print reliably. I can see that 3D printing is going to improve by leaps and bounds on the hobby side of the technology.

Re: Desktop 3D printers - AF350 - 07-28-2013

Well I looked into the TAZ 3D printer and it is comparable to my MakerBot Replicator 2, but it can extrude PLA, Styrene, and a filament that is a plastic and wood fiber combination and is $5.00 less then what I paid for the MakerBot Icon_lol Not enough difference to make me want one just yet but will keep an eye on its development.

Will buy some more PLA plastic soon and see if the detailed version of the boxcar prints out right.
