We got rid on all traces of grass two years ago and even cut down two very large trees that were destine to cause problems, and our water bill still is almost twice what it was a year ago. We can thank our city council for giving into the water company's demands that pretty much doubled our rates. Curse
And they probably want still more!

That's how it works. I thought the state utility commission had jurisdiction over all the utilities, but I guess not in this case. Their ploy is always ask for more than you want and expect more than you need for rate increases. Our power company has been after us to conserve electricity, and now that we have, they got to tack on an extra charge because they figured we weren't paying enough to help them with their "fixed" expenses. They also built a nuclear power plant about twenty years ago and they immediately added a fee onto our bills to cover the expense of tearing it down when that time comes. Icon_lol This is all on top of their normal rate increases. I'm sure it's no difference anywhere else. Nope

Our water bill has gone up considerably in the last few years. The city wanted a 19% increase. Everyone screamed so they found a way. Raise it 9% one year and 9% the next year. Net increase = 18.81%. Curse Nope

The local power company wanted to tack on a surcharge on our bill so they could think about building a nuclear plant. They were not committed to it, just wanted to think about it. And the surcharge would not be refunded if the decision was to not build one. Fortunately the state commission said no to that.

Nothing much happened today. I looked online for some Athearn F7 chassis to use as future parts sources. I found a few that I may get. Progress on the Varney F3A shows it has departed Easton Maryland. I have a doctor appointment in town tomorrow morning. Problem is there'll be no one here to assist me in getting there except my eighty year old step mother. I'll call the docs office in the morning and see if they can get by with a faxed report of the examination done by Home Health today. I doubt they'll agree but it's worth a shot. That's it for today. See y'all tomorrow.

RB: can you take a picture of the mechanism in the Varney? I want to compare it with one I have.

We went up to clean more stuff out of the trailer. We dropped the price but it still hasn't sold and there's only 2 months left of the season.
On the way up we stopped at the Train Cellar. Dayle bought 2 packs of Lionel people; I bought 4 packs of mini brushes. Train Cellar has a lot of Lionel in from an estate sale, but nothing we really need.
We came back with a carfull of stuff and I think it will take another trip or two to empty it, if we have to. Don't want the gardening stuff; no place for the lawn chairs.

Greetings, gang.

Sunny and 70 degrees right now with an expected high in the mid 90s. Only two more days of high temps and it's supposed to cool off. High for Sunday is expected to be in the mid 80s and a high of 77 for Labor Day.

Had an interesting phone call yesterday afternoon. A trucker had found my father-in-law's wallet at a rest stop. After a series of phone calls we were able to get them together again. A very big thanks to an anonymous trucker who went out of his way.

Nothing much on the agenda for today.

All stay safe.

Tom

Good morning. It's 73° with 93% humidity. The high will be 98° and will feel like 109°.

Well there's been a change about the doc appointment this morning. My father got a call this morning notifying him of a scheduling mix-up and he doesn't have to come in today. So he'll be able to take me to the docs office later. It's nothing special, just a standard examination. Other then that I have no plans for today.

Morning. Sunny and cooler. Rolesville High School had its first football game in over 50 years [since consolidation] last night. We won 53 to 45 against a HS that was suppose to beat us. Mow grass this AM and a ribbon cutting this afternoon.

Have a good and safe holiday.

Re: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VI.. Stop In!!! - ezdays - 08-30-2013

Good morning folks, cloudy day today with low temps and a decent chance of rain. The storm that passed through here the other night caused some real flooding just a few miles south of us. It was really close to the freeway that they're still working on, so who know why they got flooded and we didn't except maybe it's because the freeway is finished up by us.

We're coming up on the holiday weekend. It would be nice to go up north for a few days, but there are thousands of others with the same idea, so we're better off staying home.

The MDA telethon is on. I remember it used to be on an actual 24 hours, then it got cut down to a little over 21 hours. A few years ago it dropped down to six hours, and this year it goes for only two. It's a pity, it used to be an annual Labor Day tradition. I don't know how they can expect to get the payback that they used to get when it was run by Jerry Lewis and his tote board, but I wish them the best anyway.

I haven't poked my nose in here in a long time, oher than to make some smart remark or such.
I was wondering if youall realized that without a T or Y working on your kryboard, that half of what you write can't be understod? I've got a temporary keyboard until the new one gets here. I had a backlit one for some time, and after my eye surgery, I really needed one.

I have been fighting an 0-6-0 for weeks. It "ran" when I got it, but after a little cleaning and oiling, FFFFFT! All the drive rods screwed up and bound, so now nothing. Motor runs good, but...... I got a lot of cars with it, so I'm just looking for another one. Ebay has a couple, but the earliest one isover 2 days away. Talk about a frustrated old man, here I am.

I met a lady at a garage sale this morning that has a K-Line 1990 Limied Edition Collectors set. Anybody interested, Let me know and I'll get back with you.

And to top it all off, this computer say I have to hit F1 to continue. HAH! This keyboard doesn't have that F1, 2 and stuff. I just kept hammering on all keys till IT gave up and let me in. WHEE

Lynn Shoot Shoot

Hope you get the keyboard problem sorted out Lynn.

Got the doc appointment taken care of. Standard checkup. Also had him look in my ears as I've been hearing the constant sound of blood pulsing in my ears 24/7 since the surgery. The doc thinks it's something to do with the anesthesia that was used. A fairly common thing he says. Nonetheless he set up an appointment for me to see a specialist at the Leesville Diagnostic center on Sept 12th. Then I go back to see my doc again on the 27th the see the doc in Oakdale on the 30th. Musical doctors anyone?. This keeps up I'll have to list it on the calendar as a visit to Dr Who.

Found a couple of fairly complete Athearn F7 chassis and have them on the way. They're not much good as runners but they'll be great as parts sources.

Hello all,

No new news here but a disappointment that Chief might find humorous;

I ordered a set of 5 O scale mow trucks they came in several RR's I ordered them awhile back and just this morning got an e-mail that saying the CSX version was sold out and discontinued and that a refund would be mailed and the rest of order would shipped today. I found their 1 800 number and called them(Historic rail) and asked if any of the other road names were still available and I had a choice of Amtrak or NS I asked them to not refund but substitute the NS set for the nolonger available CSX set , the operators remark was that a lot of the CSX stuff sells out fast Icon_lol

RB,

Sounds like you are getting back on the fast track with locomotive kitbashing and rebuilding. Thumbsup
