Good morning. Well, this is the first day of the season with frosty weather for the Phoenix area. Got up and it was 34 outside, now at 7:30, it's down to 32. We do have a few days in the winter that it gets this cold, we're hoping that it gets some of our snowbirds to having second thoughts and head back home to Wisconsin, Illinois or wherever they came from. Not that we don't enjoy having them here, but lines at the grocery stores are getting a lot longer and traffic slows to a crawl thanks to those huge motorhomes towing a small car going 15 miles and hour under the speed limit, and in the fast lane to boot. :o Some try to fool you by having Arizona plates on their vehicles, but it's easy to spot them, they're the ones that drive well below the speed limit and are not on their cell phones or texting while looking down at their laps. 35 35

Good Morning Blue
We have cloudy skies and 27 degrees.
The storm has stayed to our south, so we are dry here but we are dropping to freezer temps next week.
Friday is our dinner out day but we have not discussed where yet.
No news from the train store but I will be checking in with them soon.

Good afternoon. It's 36° with 100% humidity. The high is supposed to be 42° but I don't think we're gonna make it. Low tonight will be 32°.

Had an eye exam to go to this morning and I'm just getting to where I can see the text good. Fifteen inch monitor ain't cutting it. Don't have that problem with the //e as it's hooked up to a flat screen TV and the characters are 5/8th's of an inch tall. Too bad it's not internet capable. I received two floppy disks today. Mystery House, a text/graphics game similar to the old MS-DOS game Sleuth. The other is an Apple IIe Diagnostics disk. My //e checks out with flying colors. First order of business was to make copies of them. That gave me the chance to see if the Lobo/Apple drive was up to the task. It performed brilliantly. Also received a box containing a 10-pack of double sided, double density floppy disks. They're formatted for 360k IBM but it's easy to reformat them to Applesoft DOS 3.3.

Nothing else going on today.

Good afternoon all.

Cold, streets are wet and some spots are icy, has been snowing a good bit and still coming down. Some parts of Ohio had flood watches from the rain/sleet mix last night.

Got 3 books in the mail today, one on Win8, one on robotics(how to make animated faces and robots that mimic expressions ) and one on old tin toy cars from Japan 50's to 60's era.

My eyes are still smarting a bit from the exam this morning but at least there's no longer a halo around the on screen text. It's nice to know that my eyes are in good shape. There's very little damage from my diabetes. One amusing thing, a few minutes after my father dropped me off at the eye clinic a woman came in with her young daughter in tow. I found out a little later she was six. Anyway the kid looked around and her gaze locked on me, her face lit up and she pulled on her mothers arm and yelled 'Look mommy, it's one of the men from "Duck dynasty"!'. I didn't know if that was good or bad. My hair and beard are a bit longer and bushier than usual. Turns out they're both avid fans of the show.

I got those ten IBM diskettes reformatted for Applesoft DOS 3.3. I formatted both sides so that gives me the equivalent of twenty disks. The Lobo/Apple drive is working great! It's set up on slot 7 as drive #1 with the old Franklin drive as #2.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Good Morning Blue
We have sun and 20 degrees this morning.
That's where the temps going to stay for about a week.
No snow here though and it can stay that way.
Michigan State/Ohio State football tonight.
I'm a Buckeye fan and a Spartan fan so I can live with either win.

And a good Saturday morning ta ya all.... Here we are after 8:30 and it's still in the 30's. No complaints after seeing what it's like in other parts of the country. Goldth Again, we're scheduled for rain today, but nary a cloud in the sky right now.

Yes, today is the anniversary of Pearl Harbor and I do remember that and the following days. I was very young at the time and didn't realize the significance of the event, but I do remember standing by the radio listening to FDR make his famous "infamy" speech. I was just reading an article about a restored P-40b that survived the attack. It was recovered back in the 80's and was recently purchased from a British museum by an anonymous buyer that donated it to an organization that flies WWII vintage planes. It cost him a few million dollars, and so it was a great thing to do.

Somehow I wish we could get back the patriotism that we had back then, and have watched it erode little-by-little until, in some places, you can't even fly the American flag, no one says the "Pledge of Allegiance" anymore, and you're not allowed to even bow your head before a school football game. I remember every morning at school, right up through the 12th grade, we'd bow our heads and say the Lord's Prayer, then standing to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, and it hasn't contributed towards making us a generation of bad people. Nope Why to some think they have to change that which is not harming anyone just to please a few that don't want to comply? This I will never understand.... 35

Greetings, gang.

Partly cloudy and 3 degrees after an overnight low of -6. High for today is supposed to be about 10. Snow starts tonight and is predicted to last through tomorrow night. NWS says it will be a light fluffy snow so any wind at all could make for a nasty situation.

I've been working outside for the last couple of days. I had to sand some wood with the belt sander which can make a real mess in the house. The belt sander lasted about 10 minutes before the smoke started to escape so there was a quick trip to Menards to buy a new one. The sanding part of the project is done so the rest of it can be done indoors. Last month we had a tree taken down in the yard. It was one that our daughter brought home from grade school. She was disappointed that we had to take it down. She wanted some trivets for Christmas so my wife had the idea to make trivets from the tree. I borrowed a chain saw and cut some slices of the tree. Then I sanded it down and today we picked up some feet for it. Would love to be there when she opens the package.

All stay safe.

Tom

Got up this morning to fin that we were pretty much without communications out here. Cable TV worked OK but internet was out and land line phone service was spotty at best. Cell phone service was OK. Internet is back up and running but still having some problems. Land line phone now appears to be all right. No plans set in stone today. I may work on Oliver's adventure later. That depends on what else happens.

Been pretty quiet in here I see. Our internet and phone service went down about four hours ago. Cable TV was fine but everything else other than electricity was out until about twenty minutes ago not counting a tiny four minute window that allowed me to get a post into a thread on the Model Railroader forum. Other than that I copied some disks on the //e, backups mostly. I also got in a Starfleet1 mission.

RB,

A lot of folks maybe digging out from the snow, roads here were clear but are now iced over in some spots.

Cold in the living room warm in the hall tolerable at the computer.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One program completed(electronics study guide), Might do another small one for converting measurements from one scale to another. Covering Z, N, TT, HO, OO, S, O, G(scales). May do a game sometime down the road.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Been slacking off on train stuff lately, been trying to get some stuff done but the real world has some issues mostly plumbing, I can do most of it but replacing the big iron pipe drain is for the real plumber once that gets done I can replace the bathroom faucet/sink and vanity and a new faucet for the bath tub, then I have a slight issue with smelly water at my house(I think the water heater has something growing in it will have to drain and re fill a couple times to see if that fixes it).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Got the old 88 nissan truck running again, only 2 issues to resolve a busted speedometer that sticks at 15 mph and unoprable emergancy brake. The truck has been a work horse as it picked up and delivered electric motors from as far North as Michigan but mostly in Ohio for a few years when my dad worked for two electric motor shops back in 88-90s after retiring from the bakery. Then I used it in the winter before I bought my first car(was still driving mom's 88 escort). Then it was in the spare car catagory for awhile and rusted away until my late brother decided to "restore" it replaced every thing but the cab its self, looks new but the speedometer and emergancy brake need fixed still.

Frank, One buck would be enough for us for the year. Is there a limit for you guys there? The deer here are eating the corn but they must be doing it at night. I don't see them at the feeder but it is always gone in the morning. Lots of tracks. Snow will drive them out into the daylight to feed.
6 and three have to be does. The other three are hunter's choice [bucks or does]. I understand that you can now buy more doe tags.

Re: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VI.. Stop In!!! - Running Bear - 12-07-2013

Today has been taken up mostly by making backups of software for the //e. Some disks like Copy 2+, ProDOS Users disk and DOS 3.3 System Master I like to keep at three backups at all times. Also made multiple backups of the diagnostic software. I spent more time than I wanted to fine tuning the //e's flat screen monitor. The controls are all multi-function and naturally are tucked away so you can't see them when you're watching the screen to see what does what. It was a major pain in the butt to get the brightness and sharpness set how I wanted. Had time afterward to play a game of Starfleet1 but little else. Internet finally came back up and it took a while to get caught up on who's doing what and what's happening where. It may seem like I don't pay attention to your posts but I do.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
