Did they get it VERY used from another RR & WSOR is afraid of cleaning it up to paint it fearing it will fall apart? LOL

I believe they came from a leasing company, but at a time that the WSOR was very short on motive power so repainting wasn't very high on their priorities .
All were from the Milwaukee Road
MP15AC 1501 4/1500 11/1975 ex-SOO 1557, nee MILW 491
MP15AC 1502 4/1500 10/1975 ex-SOO 1541, nee MILW 475
MP15AC 1503 4/1500 10/1975 ex-SOO 1542, nee MILW 476
MP15AC 1504 4/1500 11/1975 ex-SOO 1561, nee MILW 495
MP15AC 1505 4/1500 11/1975 ex-SOO 1549, nee MILW 483
MP15AC 1506 4/1500 11/1975 ex-SOO 1562, nee MILW 496

But only one (1501) had be repainted by the lease company, into a kind of yellow.
It was nick named Colonel Mustard

Don't know anything about M15 AC or DC because Santa Fe never had any (& of course no rust buckets). Guess SP had some. But for my LAJ layout they are "too new" anyhow. And any "bandits" behind my apartment better watch out for the "gang bangers" Smile

Andy, the story starts with the MD15AC in the standard MILW paint scheme

SOO painted a black "mask" over the MILW road name and road number and added their numbers

That is the origin of the nickname "bandits" due to the black mask.

I have no idea why but the SOO shops must have used black paint of the lowest possible quality and the bandits started to look like this one

Some of this poor creatures ended at the WSOR and got another black mask at the cab sides to carry the WSOR road name and number

One of the building in Antwerp has unusual shades at the windows in the 2nd floor (red marked). Are that sun shades (in Ohio?) and they look like permanent shades made of green painted wood. Is that correct? I would like to copy them on my layout but I like to know what I am copying.

They're not shades. They're plugs in the window opening.

Its pretty common in the Rust Belt to see upper story windows that were modified to have new windows. The new windows aren't the same size as the original windows. So they installed the windows and filled in the rest of the hole with plywood or whatever.

Some of the old but still famous backgrounds could be reused.

Paul Higgins is moving one block west with his hardware store soon. No name etc. required everybody in town knows Paul and Bridget with their hardware store. They are still waiting for the sign over the door. It was due last week Sad
