Re: Freelance 2013-2 (MAW) - Tyson Rayles - 10-03-2013 Re: Freelance 2013-2 (MAW) - torikoos - 10-04-2013 Ah yes the Red Sea, possibly the best tropical aquarium you could swim in, definitely in the top 3 spots. I was there last year, I only snorkeled, but I must admit that I prefer that, as close to the surface, there is the maximum of colours to see, and that's what I enjoy most. Anyway, way of topic , sorry :-) Koos Re: Freelance 2013-2 (MAW) - bdw9535 - 10-04-2013 Reinhard, Nice to see you back, and it must be getting close to the time for you to head back to work. Any major plans for the layout or should we wait for another delightful surprise. Bruce Re: Freelance 2013-2 (MAW) - faraway - 10-04-2013 Well, next week is the last week of freedom This winter will be my second last turn until I will finally retire. I have no current plans how to proceed with my layout other than enjoying operation sessions. Re: Freelance 2013-2 (MAW) - faraway - 10-09-2013 I got some of the new Walthers SW1 with the intention to put them on storage to be used on a possible "LA 1950 layout" and they are not anymore easy available at that time. Funny thing is they are so smooth runners and look so nice with their tiny verandas like the SD38-2 I would like to use them on a post year 2000 layout too. Looks like some are still in use in the US. Need to dig deeper into the current SW1 use in the US. e.g. Cloquet Terminal Railroad looks interesting to me. Anyhow SP zebra SW1 look strange on any todays layout (2nd photo). Nice model Reinhard. What about this? http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... =5#remarks Re: Freelance 2013-2 (MAW) - faraway - 10-09-2013 postman Wrote:Nice model Reinhard. What about this? That is the most (semi) prototypical way to get an old SW1 on a modern layout. I did find various single SW1 in all kind of paint schemes serving some kind of grain related industry like mine at the east industry. Re: Freelance 2013-2 (MAW) - bdw9535 - 10-09-2013 Reinhard, You most likely have checked this site but if not look at http://www.railpictures.net/showphotos. ... =EMD%20SW1 looks like the SW1 is still used in 2013 and you get to keep your elevator for another round of rebuilding . Bruce Re: Freelance 2013-2 (MAW) - bdw9535 - 10-09-2013 Looks like we were all posting around the same time about the same site. Reinhard Since it IS your MR just tell anybody who asks that the SW1 is owned by an old head SP hogger & he had it painted that way because he never liked the SP red/gray bloody nose scheme. Re: Freelance 2013-2 (MAW) - faraway - 10-10-2013 I have to get the hopper to the elevator. Will be back soon to do further details like weathering etc.. Re: Freelance 2013-2 (MAW) - lajry - 10-10-2013 Always liked these little SW-1 switchers but Santa Fe never had them. Instead their first EMD switchers were 4 SC (C=cast steel frame? vs W=welded frame?). Haven't even been able to find any pix of their SCs. Always liked that "tool box" on the front porch. 8-) Re: Freelance 2013-2 (MAW) - faraway - 10-10-2013 The black part got an opaque dark brown layer and brown and gray have been used for dry brushing. Re: Freelance 2013-2 (MAW) - torikoos - 10-11-2013 As usual, you're progressing at an amazing rate :-) I love the look of it already. Koos |
