My steel mill - railroader9731 - 01-25-2009

My steel mill idea as follows first its not going to be a huge operation 2nd would this set up be possible in the real world and last would it look right to have tracks run under the bridge in the second pic to the rolling mill? Thanks for all your guys input.

Yes.

Wink Misngth And to expand on that a bit: a blast furnace and a rolling mill have several operations separating them, which, in your scene, could occur "elsewhere". Of course, there's also lots of operations preceding the blast furnace and following the rolling mill, also candidates for "elsewhere". The bridge between the two is perfectly plausible. If the track running under the bridge serves only the steel plant buildings, install fencing along both sides of the elevated track. If the lower track serves anything else besides the steel plant, fence-off the steel plant, too.

The bridge is cool, but if you could reposition it to gain 1 inch between it and the wall and put in something besides sky so that it isn't a bridge to "nowhere", it would be better. I'm not sure what you could put there. Would a steel mill ever have a train enter a building on a second floor? Perhaps if some of the surrounding buildings were taller, it would hide the tracks somewhat like an "urban tunnel."

Very nice and Russ has some good suggestions to make it even better!I would love to do a steel mill seeing as how most of my family had worked at the USS Steel "Duluth Works" at one time or another until it closed(for the most part) in the mid 70's.
