What ever we settle on it is not written in stone. Also I would assume you could request your car being sent on to the next person on the list. Lets go for it and see how it works out. Oh yeah how do you put a comment in the blog?

Re: Interest In Tour Car or Car Exchange? - Mike Kieran - 09-06-2013

When I log onto the blog using the link http://modelrailroadcarexchange.blogspo%20...%20ember.html, I have to sign in to the blog in the upper right. When I sign in, I see an orange icon with a pencil. When you hit that, there's a window right there for putting in an entry. I don't know what's coming up on your screen, so I hope that little bit of info clarifies things.

What I can do is show who is receiving the cars for interchange as well as sending them. It worked out easier until I set the functions on the cells for the spreadsheet program. What I like about the idea of sending and receiving interchange cars from different people is that it increases communication with each other and includes three people in the process, thus fostering more of the fellowship that was the intent of the car exchange.

The added benefit of this system is if someone drops out or joins in, we just plug them in without disrupting the exchange because everyone has someone ahead and after them since, for all intents and purposes, the exchange is a circle. Imagine a ring around the rosie circle where someone can enter or leave without disrupting the circle. This way, we don't have to worry about pairing everybody up. The cost of shipping will still be the same.

I apologize for not communicating this better. I was looking further down the line of the exchange without waiting for everyone to catch up. Let me put the chart in an easier presentation to break up the confusion that I caused.

For September 2013:
Chet receives a car from teejay and sends a car to jerseymercantile.
jerseymercantile receives a car from Chet and sends a car to jwb.
jwb receives a car from jerseymercantile and sends a car to Lester Perry.
Lester Perry receives a car from jwb and sends a car to Mike Kieran.
Mike Kieran receives a car from Lester Perry and sends a car to puddlejumper.
puddlejumper receives a car from Mike Kieran and sends a car to Ralph.
Ralph receives a car from puddlejumper and sends a car to teejay.
teejay receives a car from Ralph and sends a car to Chet.

I understand that part. How does it rotate?

Re: Interest In Tour Car or Car Exchange? - Mike Kieran - 09-07-2013

Here's the table that I designed. I plan to put into a spreadsheet program so that I merely have to have to change the formula if somebody joins in or drops out. as you can see in the last column, everyone sends a car to themselves. this is not going to happen, it just reverts back to column 1. I could do it by hand, but that's where it can unravel. With a spreadsheet program, we have the flexibility to handle many functions, such as presenting a table showing statistics as well as rotating the members.

It would be helpful if the receiving layout knew what the shipping layout has to ship so they could request an appropriate load. I don't have a stock yard so if someone ships me livestock I guess they would die in the car sitting on a siding somewhere.

Oh jeez. Then PETA, local law enforcement, maybe even the FDA would get involved. We would never get the exchange going after that, could be delayed for months. Misngth

So don't send me a car load of live stock

Re: Interest In Tour Car or Car Exchange? - Ralph - 09-08-2013

With a little help from Johnny Cash: "I've got live stock, I've got live stock. I got cows, I got sheep, I got pigs. I got mules, I got...alllll live stock!" Smile

Train PY-2 is ready to pull out with 2 cars right behind the power billed for the KP&W via Kings Port.

Excellent! We'll be looking forward to their arrival! Thumbsup

Re: Interest In Tour Car or Car Exchange? - Lester Perry - 09-08-2013

Here is #2 of this adventure

Mike placed an order for a car load of GERN flux© for his RU ready mix concrete plant. This additive makes the concrete 3% harder/stronger. Gern had an empty car on hand GILX 5612. It was loaded
and picked up on the next local.

It went to Clifton Forge Va. Where it was put in a train going to Baltimore.

You can look at the waybill and see the route it is taking, destination, contents and other information

Re: Interest In Tour Car or Car Exchange? - Ralph - 09-15-2013

I've taken some more photos of Puddlejumper's cars on my layout (and have more to post) but am now turning my attention to getting a car to TeeJay.
His transition era layout prompted me to go back in time and document a Kings Port & Western gon full of scrap being sent his way a few decades ago...

After some switching in the yard the car becomes part of a northbound train that starts the gon's journey to Ontario.
