Thanks for the kind words.

I am somewhat busy with all kind of stuff due to the upcoming last winter session on the job starting next Monday. Anyhow there is always some time for a switching session.

Knowing Reinhards liking for urban settings, I came across this, and thought it might give him ideas or, at least, be useful for modifying - not a kit that I have noticed before

Worked some time to details and "ruined" the warehouse at the East end.

The "Roberts" decals was much to beautiful. I had no good idea how to weather it with paint but a burst of gentle strokes with a small brass brush worked fine.

I would love to have huge buildings like that one on my layout. I can not afford to use my tiny space for none rail served scenes like a business or commercial district. But I would love to......... dream...... dream....... Sad

Anyhow I will try if some small buildings out of Downtown Deco Adams Ave I and II might fit in some small gaps of my layout. Order has been placed but it will take long weeks until the parcel is at my doorstep. I have no experience with hydrocal and no space to build the kits as directed. I have to kit bash. We will see how I get along with it.

Starting to look good Reinhard,hope your having as much fun as i did adding all that detail to your layout,it's what finishes a layout off ( but takes a bit of time).
one thing that someone pointed out while i was adding my detail is, that wood goes more of a grey colour after it's been out in sun/rain for a while. Wink

Oh yes, I certainly do. It is extrem relaxing and satisfying. I have no idea when it will be completed. At least not in the near future.

The last photo showed a close to perfect light gray yard in front of the warehouse. I changed that Misngth

My very first Downtown Deco kits Addams Ave I and II arrived today.
The long warehouse got shifted five elements to the right behind the other building to get some space. I intend to cut the sidewall in two parts and use them with the front as a backdrop building.

Downtown Deco is posting fascinating photos of perfect made kits in some FaceBook groups quite frequently. I understand that at least 90% of the result depends on the paint skill of the modeler..... I will give it a serious try (or shift the warehouse five elements left again Wink

)

Some time later are the walls cut (scribe and break like tiles) and glued with Lactate 454. The roof and the inner walls are made of styrene. The doors and windows are fit and put in place for demonstration purposes only. Extreme caution must be used when fitting the window and door rfames into the wall. The wall must be put absolute flat on your table or it will crack (happened to me because a tiny grain of dirt was under the wall) or even break in parts.

Again some time later are white primer from the rattle can and first layers of diluted base colors (Vallejo acrylic paint) applied.

It is amazing how much different the paint interact with the plaster than with styrene. This wall is only twice painted with diluted paint. It is not weathered and got no wash.

Main parts assemble,d painted and basic weathered (several black and brown wash). Next are the details to beef it up.

My first Downtown Deco kit is assembled. I am quite happy with the result of my first kit. It is not as perfect as the models displayed in the advertisement photos but it is "good enough" (for me). The instructions supplied are very detailed and useful for the beginner. It is a clear recommendation to buy if you need a run down urban model for your layout.
Two recommendations:
- ensure the wall lays on a perfect flat desk if you work on the window/door openings. One ballast stone under the wall is sufficient to break it if you press with a chisel.
- use well diluted paint only. Better 10 layers of semi water than one layer of thick paint.

Need to do some more weathering and take care of the sidewalk.
