Need wheelsets - nachoman - 02-03-2009

I need wheelsets that have 1.5mm axles. I need 1 45" diameter set, and two that are either 33 or 36" wheels. Unfortunately, the manufacturers don't usually list the axle sizes. I thought before I start contacting manufacturers, it may be quicker to ask here and see if anyone knows.

I am sorry I cannot answer your question (although I can measure my P2K wheelsets later...) I am interested to know why diameter of the axle is important... :?:

I have a pilot truck and trailing truck on an old mantua locomotive that need wheels with smaller flanges. The axles fit into slots on the truck rather than being supported by needle bearings on the outside.

I want to replace them for having too large of flanges. So I don't know if a direct replacement would have the same issue or not.

They also have new, retooled parts for old mantuas

Re: Need wheelsets - ray_m - 02-04-2009

Mantua made wheelsets with semi-pizza-cutter flanges and also RP-25 wheelsets.
The pilot wheels shouldn't be hard to find as they were the same as the freight car wheels. I'm not sure how easy the trailing truck wheelset will be to find but as suggested, Ask Dan at yard bird and specify the RP-25 flanges.

Thanks, guys. I will try yardbird and see what they say.

Re: Need wheelsets - FiatFan - 02-04-2009

I just went downstairs and measured my P2K36" wheel sets and the axle is .088. My Intermountain axles are even larger than that so I'm afraid those won't be of any help.
