Re: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VII.. Stop In!!! - ezdays - 08-16-2014 Chief Eagles Wrote:Morning all. DAZ, pickup has mud on tires and under carriage. Still wet on the farm. Long day at the farm. Got in at 9:30 last night. Didn't unload. Too tired. Rest today. Hope all is well. Yup, my truck is likewise with mud on the running boards and in the wheel wells, all from running through the desert to do some target shooting two weeks ago. The area we shoot at is on private land and so any access to the area is not maintained. If we went to an area controlled by the BLM, they usually grade their dirt roads occasionally, especially after a hard rain. The area where we shoot is usually kept fairly clean, knowing that the owners can restrict access at any time. Someone will organize a cleanup every once in a while. The last time we were out there, someone had dumped a large pile of garbage on the side of the road, and so the shooters will have to haul it off or take the blame. . One of the shooters (a certified instructor) said that someone had dumped a body there a while back. They'd better not blame the shooters for that. Re: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VII.. Stop In!!! - Running Bear - 08-16-2014 Good morning. It's 81° with 85% humidity. The high will be 95°, cloudy with a small chance of rain. with No plans for today. Still in a puzzle concerning the road damage yesterday. The more I look at it the more I think it was done by a very heavy truck trailer being turned there. Re: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VII.. Stop In!!! - Running Bear - 08-16-2014 Looks like I might be able to get a few good shots tonight. Whatever I get it should be colorful. Getting the moon shot last night was difficult to put it mildly. Getting all the optics to line up right is tricky. Tonight may be cloudy so don't expect much. Re: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VII.. Stop In!!! - nachoman - 08-16-2014 RB - curious what kind of camera setup you are using to get that shot of the moon. Saturn or Jupiter may be interesting to try. I've got a 4.5" reflector, but no kind of camera attachment or no automatic tracking, making my interesting viewing options limited. Without any kind of electronics (camera or tracking), I think you need at least 6 or 8 inch objective to see deep sky objects worth much. You did quite well with that moon image Re: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VII.. You did quite well with that moon imageMy telescope is small. 50mm x 600mm. I'm using an old Nikon L20 digital camera to get the shots. Tonight's target is Saturn. Those rings are irresistible! However I have to acquire the target quickly as I can't stand for long. I'll be using full mag on the scope and max zoom on the camera. I'll be using the cameras LCD screen as a viewpoint to acquire the target and hope I can hold it steady. The moon shot last night was frame 29 of 36. I hope I can get Saturn much faster than that. Re: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VII.. Stop In!!! - Running Bear - 08-16-2014 Nothing much going on here. I spent a few minutes outside getting sighted in and got a decent shot on the third attempt. That was great as by that time I could no longer stand. I need to get me a good chair. Time to call it a night here. See y'all tomorrow Re: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VII.. Stop In!!! - ezdays - 08-17-2014 Good morning all. Warm today... no, hot today, pushing on the record which is 111. Not only that, the humidity and dew points are up to where it should be raining out, but it isn't. They say it will start tomorrow with a good chance all week long. RB: nice photos, it's a feat just being able to find what you're looking for up in the sky, never mind getting good shots of it when you do. I bought a telescope about 20 years ago and didn't get to see much of anything. I guess I just didn't know where to look and so I lost interest very quickly. Re: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VII.. Stop In!!! - sir james - 08-17-2014 Good Morning Blue We have sun and 75 for the day. Should be about 10 degrees higher than that this time of year. I spent yesterday taking wife and 2 of her sisters to see their brother. 279.8 miles round trip. It was a nice day and we had a safe trip so it was good all round. And as a bonus we stopped at a casino for an hour and I left with an extra $61.00. The gals didn't do so good but we weren't there long enough for them to lose much. No plans for today. S.J. Finding which one Saturn is in at any given time is easy if you know what you're looking for. Planets look like stars to the unaided eye, except for one distinction. they don't twinkle. You won't be able to see Saturn's rings with the unaided eye, but the planet will appear whitish yellow and rather bright. Tonight Saturn can be found at RA: 14 h 44 m 55 s DEC: -13° 37' 45". You can get a double treat as Mars is close by. RA: 15 h 11 m 46 s DEC: -19° 35' 46". Re: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VII.. Stop In!!! - Gumpoleon - 08-17-2014 Hi gang, I decided to add a bit of habanero chilli to this week's veggie Soup. Personal memo: ½Million scoville burn like a female dog. [Insert various curses and 4 letter Words to suit your imagination here] Yep, I decided to lick a tiny Little piece of the chilli. I believe I may have been cured of my craving for spicy food for the rest of the year... Martin Re: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VII.. Stop In!!! - Running Bear - 08-17-2014 You could've accomplished that by just opening a bottle of Da-Bomb hot sauce. Re: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VII.. Stop In!!! - Chief Eagles - 08-17-2014 Afternoon all. Hot and humid again. Have a great week. Re: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VII.. Stop In!!! - rtraincollector - 08-17-2014 Evening all been a slow day just a stop in to say hi. Re: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VII.. Stop In!!! - Running Bear - 08-17-2014 No star gazing tonight. Cloudy and rain. Mars will have to wait. Tuesday or Wednesday might be good. It'll be visible at the following locations those nights. Tuesday: RA: 15 h 16 m 11 s DEC:-19°, 53', 7". Wednesday: RA: 15 h 18 m 25 s DEC:-20°, 1' 43". Time to call it a night here. See y'all tomorrow. Re: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VII.. Stop In!!! - ezdays - 08-18-2014 Good morning. Thunder and lightning all night long with a little bit of rain. I'll have to wait and see the news to find out how the rest of the area did, but I suspect, as always, those folks on the east side got hit harder than we did. Rain in the forecast for the rest of the week with temps just under 100.... Are we starting to cool down? Nah, it's just what happens this time of the year. It'll be hot right up to October, that's when the Snowbirds start flocking back. Have a good week ya' all. |
