Yeah, congratulations on your retirement, Reinhard. 2285_ Thumbsup 2285_ Thumbsup 2285_ Thumbsup 2285_

While I generally enjoyed my time working, retirement is the best job I've ever had, and the working hours suit me perfectly.
I hope that you have many years to enjoy yours.

Wayne

Re: Freelance 2015-1 - Mr Fixit - 03-20-2015

Best wishes in your retirement Reinhard.

Dont we all wish we could bottle "That little boy at Xmas" feeling. 2285_

I should warn you that many retired people I know, often wonder how they ever had the time for work. 35

I am concerned that the frequency of change on your Freelance 2015-1 layout may accelerate exponentially now that you are a retired hobbyist. :race:

We will no doubt have to pay close attention to your thread to keep up. Popcornbeer

When I was medically retired back in '05 my work days were at a end--recess had arrived and that means play time.I'm enjoying my "work free" life to the max.

Never could understand those old folks that refuse to take time to enjoy their final years by enjoying their hobby/hobbies.

Re: Freelance 2015-1 - faraway - 03-23-2015

Thanks a lot for the nice wishes. They are very welcome.

Work continues at a speed adjusted to my new profession :o Spend some time with the rattle cans on the balcony yesterday. The left building has the same color as the others but light changes colors on photos.

Maybe they're waiting for the doughnut truck (I'm partial to Boston Creams myself).

The lumber and furniture dealer is complete.

The industry is right to the lead track and a new street and green area with shrubs is between the lumber dealer and scrap yard.

very nice and very fast, but that's not surprising with all that spare time :-)

Re: Freelance 2015-1 - faraway - 03-26-2015

The new version of the layout is quite different from all the previous.
It is intended to be a stage for my rolling stock and street cars. It refrains from presenting a dedicated theme or area to permit free usage of most of my contemporary stuff on the tracks and streets. The buildings stand back to permit free view and easy access for switching.
The price to pay is a layout with a tendency to look boring and having no own character.

The previous layout with all the beautiful Downtown Deco buildings was big fun to build and it looked very charming to my when I came into the room. But it became more and more a nightmare to operate. I underestimated the effort to switch in a brick canyon with blocked view and physical access.

Summary: Simple layout made for lots of fun to operate it

ps. The East end industry is waiting to be rebuilt. May be something inspired by Nestle Purina in Jefferson Wi to get a home for my reefers. UP's operation on that former CNW main line is quite interesting for small layouts. The trains are short and the branch line became a stub line. The south connection is gone. A good reason to run GP15-1 and GP38-2 with long hood a head. The last run around is in Jefferson. Trainmasterkrebs has a bunch of clips in YouTube ( https://www.youtube.com/user/Trainmasterkreks ).
