I think I want to change. . . . . - MadHatter - 03-07-2009

Hi Everyone

I think I want to give my South African stuff a break- reasons including: Hard to find, when you do find- exuberant prices, and most stuff you need to scratchbuild.

I've been looking at- naturally  - BNSF and UP. Thumbsup

Maybe something like Cajon Pass (Rather parts thereof) any other ideas?

Don't have measurements for space yet, but want to get the creative juices flowing. Popcornbeer

Alright another BNSF and UP modeler Thumbsup Misngth

I know Josh (JBaakko) is/wants to model the Cajon Pass some day. its quite a challenge, and would require quite a lot of space, but man would it be sweet!! Ive only see the Cajon Pass a few times, but the few times i did, i have to see it was a awesome site to see. And with both BNSF and UP running through there, it makes it all the more better Misngth

Question: Why in Rail Sim they only have UP trains if the line is owned by BNSF? :o

Maybe you could keep the two going somehow (both South African and UP/BNSF). I model British Railways 80-90% of the time and, depending on my mood, occasionally get my 1950s Canadian stuff out as well (although the layout is designed as a British one). Rob

I also know of another modeller who runs both European and Canadian trains. He has purposely designed his layout so that it can pass for either Europe or Canada! IIRR, he has European locos & coaches parked on one side of the layout and Canadian on the other. Then he runs whichever protoptype he feels like, depending on his preference that day. Rob

There are three tracks through the pass. 2 belong to the BNSF one belongs to U.P. (ex-S.P.). I suspect that Rail Sim saved some money by only using one railroad instead of two. Before the mergers, you could see S.F., U.P., and S.P. in the pass.

When I posted, I forgot to give you another link that you may find useful:

The guy who started this forum is a Riverside County firefighter who practically "lives" in Cajon Pass. After you check out all of the information on the site pertaining to Cajon Pass, if you have questions, there are guys there who will have answers.

Thanks for the replies. Thumbsup

Yip, the Cajon Pass looks a little like our "Karoo"- arid, and open...
Maybe that is an idea.

We got one guy here, he does American, European and South African. Most of our guys here mix and match (anything and everything) but I'm tooooooooooo picky to do that
Another GREAT site btw.
