CNR Northern to make nocturnal trip through Toronto
#1
Later this week, during the wee hours, the CNR Northern is scheduled to be transported from its current location at the CNE Grounds to the Toronto Railway Heritage Centre at the John Street CP Roundhouse.

Here is an article on engineering the move and the planned route. I suspect other papers will run similar stories over the next few days?

At any rate, the Toronto Railway Heritage Center will be an awesome place once it's completed. It already looks great with the restored turntable, Don Station, Cabin D interlocking tower, other buildings and miniature steam railway.

That's great...! I still have mixed feelings about Leon's going into the Roundhouse :| , but I am glad to hear they are picking up the tab for the move. Thumbsup

Did you find any more info on that little tidbit about a turntable going to Smith's Falls? If you haven't been, check out http://www.sfrmeo.ca/ for more info. It's a great destination. Note that they have just redone their website, so some information is currently missing...

Thanks, Andrew. I'll check out the Smith's Fall website as well. It would be great to plan a visit to the museum sometime!

The presence of Leon's is probably a good thing. One TRHA member even went as far to say that Leon's is one of the best things that ever happened to the Roundhouse. Apparently, they have been very supportive.

Cheers,
Rob

I went down to see 6213 going into the exhibition. I think they took it from the tracks north of the grounds and moved it on sections of track -- put down track, move the loco, move the track in front again. They pulled it with some sort of tractor but at least it went in on its own wheels.

In model railroading, there are between six and two hundred ways of performing a given task.
Most modellers can get two of them to work.

It looks like the tender will hit the road tonight ! but the loco itself won't be moved until sometime next week. Apparently, there are still weight and route concerns regarding the loco. Meanwhile, work and progress at the roundhouse chugs on. Big Grin Rob

Thanks ... as much as I'd like to, it's pretty difficult. It's almost midnight and if I were to go, I should probably be heading out now! Still, it will be neat to take some pix later next week when hopefully both engine and tender will have arrived. Cheers, Rob

Too bad Rob... Please provide any links you find though!

And if we're going to give kudos to Leon's, we should also mention the only proper beer to drink while doing model railroading...

Yes, I agree -- I just bought a 12-pack of Steam Whistle last week!

Here's a link where you can view some pics:

It looks like the Loco itself will be transported to the roundhouse late on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, after midnight.

It will be great once it's there. I wish it would be possible to find the funds to restore it to operation! Sad
