HOn30 Fairlie
#1
I just saw that Roco is coming out with an HOn30 (H0e) Fairlie. Certainly an interesting model!

It looks (to me) like it is based off of a Ffestiniog locomotive (Wales...the inspiration for the D&RG).

The model would make an excellent starting point for the D&RG's most unique locomotive...the Mountaineer!

Have you seen Rod Clarke's book Narrow Gauge through the Bush? http://www.narrowgaugethroughthebush.com/
Rod is a friend. The two narrow roads he writes about used Fairlies and other oddities. Rod did some marvellous drawings of the rolling stock (samples on the web site).
The book is a year and a half old and the last tie I saw him he said they'd sold enough copies to break even.

Cool! I see that you are active in the n-scale forum...and your Coal Mine Railway thread looks pretty cool. I need to visit the N/Z forum more often...

Reminds me of playing legos as a kid and deisgning a car with two front ends - for the person who can't decide which way to go. Icon_lol

I can see why this design never caught on.
