I modified the track plan a bit

and started some scenery.

Ridge line and the river through the gorge.

It is exciting to see a layout at this stage.

Now is also the time to iron out the kinks in the trackwork. Looks like you've got a good one in the first photo at the top of the page, on the upper level curve, right side.

I may not be a rivet counter, but I sure do like rivets!

I agree. Too many 'showing off' style photo's of layouts which do nothing to show new entrants into the world of RR how to do anything. I love to see different ways of getting the same results.

It's also not often mentioned that a track plan is wonderful, an laying the track is great but until the scenery starts to be put in place you don't really get a feel for what the end result will actually look like, unless you're one of those people who can visualise extremely well.

By my standards, that is a very ambitious layout! Thumbsup

Should be superb to run - looking forward to watching progress. 8-)

I agree. It is really neat to see a layout at this stage of construction and then see it come alive as scenery is added. Just don't forget to clean it up and run some trains if you haven't already done so. Especially, try to run your most derailment prone locomotives with your longest rolling stock to make sure everything works before you cover it with scenery. I've never done it, but would imagine that relaying track in a tunnel is not a fun project!

Howdy, I've been off Big Blue for a while due to moving and re-settling my life in general. I like what you have been doing with your Royal Gorge & Southern. I am also looking at building a modified Midland Central layout at the moment, due to space restrictions. My dream layout will have to wait a couple of more years. It will be wired for DCC. What I am looking at doing is, increasing the mainline curve radius to 24 or 26r, single tracking the main with one passing siding, changing the yard layout and reducing it to 4 tracks. Also, the yard will not be a dead end, but continue on to connect with a small pre existing shelf industrial layout. I would be interested in any suggestions from your current project. Thanks - Dave
