Rebuilding a switcher
#16
That exploded drawing is for an older version loco with an ancient motor, and outside bearings. Your local Hobby shop just might have the bearings in stock, and you might want to ask about a conversion kit to add a can motor, A-Line had an Athearn Switcher remotor kit.
One other trick, when you get the loco ready for its first run, clean the gears (in the trucks) thoroughly, and apply some SofScrub(without bleach) to the gears and run continuously, in both directions for about five minutes each direction, then thoroughly clean again, lube and go. The mild abrasive of the SofScrub,(or good old tooth paste) will polish the gears and they will run a bit more smoothly, and quietly.
We always learn far more from our own mistakes, than we will ever learn from another's advice.
The greatest place to live life, is on the sharp leading edge of a learning curve.
Lead me not into temptation.....I can find it myself!
