Atlantic Coast Line ACL GP35 Athearn RTR
#1
Used Athearn RTR GP35, Atlantic Coast Line #911. Unit does have some flaws, so consider these before bidding. If you are willing to do a little minor tinkering and detail work, you will end up with a GREAT looking and great running locomotive. If you are looking for something totally complete and ready to go to work pulling the next manifest or hotshot pigs, this one might not be for you. This was bought as part of a 3 unit lot on Ebay and I only wanted one of the three. I model the WP and UP in the late 70's/early 80's, so I am by no means a ACL expert, nor do I know much abotu east coast roads in general.

This model does have a Proto 2000 motor and drive, brass Details West M5R24 air horn, wire grab irons, and stock Athearn Blomberg "B" trucks.

HOWEVER, the handrails being fragile plastic have broken in the right front and is missign a small down rail piece. Replacements are easy to get however, either from your Local Hobby Shop, Ebay or from Athearn themselves. Unit has broken front coupler, but what is a new Kadee anyway?? Unit is also missing the front foot boards (to my knowledge, ACL GP35's never wore snow plows, or else I'd use one to cover that up), but foot boards are easy to make and install), and is missing it's headlight bulbs (you want to replace these if going with DCC anyway). Unit is NOT DCC READY due to being repowered, but the Proto motors are far superior to Athearn's stock motors anyway. If it had Dynamic Brakes, it'd be soaking in paint stripper right now in preperation to become WP green, as it is a NICE locomotive. However, it is just not of my local, era or road. Low starting price, no reserve takes this great piece, and a day in your railroads shop results in a nice addition to your locomotive fleet. Refer to auction photos for idea on condition. As you can see, damage is relatively minor.
