Tank Car Cleaning Facility
#1
I was doing a little research on a possible tank cleaning facility for my layout when I stumbled upon this large facility near Texarkana Texas. I don't want something this big, but I thought it was pretty cool and would make a great 4x8 single industry/switching layout.....http://www.bing.com/maps/Default.aspx?en...&FORM=LLDP

Very interesting industry..One could model the main building by condensing it and the remaining buildings and track woyl be "off layout".

Richard,

That is a big one!!!

For your research there is an Oxy Chemical plant in Wichita that does there own car cleaning. The entire facility could be modeled using a a couple of Pikestuff two stall enginehouse. They also recieve soda ash in ASHX three bay 40' hoppers to clean out the inside of the cars.

Thanks for the link Mr. Goat, didn't realize how big these facilities could be. I really hadn't planned on adding one to my plan, but I drove past one coming home from Austin... it wasn't nearly as large, it had 4 or 5 storage tracks and one large metal building with an entry and exit for tankers. Very unassuming. I was trying to find it on Bing when I stumbled across all these others. Didn't catch the name of it and it was somewhere on I35 between Waco and Dallas. My travelling companions were not interested in turning around for a few pictures. No fun driving with non-believers Icon_lol I think it would be a great industry for any layout, especially for the tanker lovers!
Cheers,
Richard

Here's the GATX facility in West Colton CA.s as seen on Bing aerials. If you ever go there find Pepper Ave on west side of it just below I-10. This view is looking east. There used to be some real old switchers parked on the spurs outside on left. They do have their own switcher working the facility.
