Tapes and motors
#1
My Athearn SD40 needed a better motor. I had some Kato SD38 motors on the shelf. They are quiet, well balanced, have the right length and the flywheels fit with the Athearn hexagon axle to the trucks. My first try was to glue the motor in place but the noise was impressive loud.

I tried my double sided adhesive tape again.
1. A piece of tape in the bottom of the frame
2. A piece of blue foam shaped to match the well in the frame to get the right height
3. A piece of tape
4. The Kato motor
5. A piese of tape
6. The old Athearn PCB Board

This triple burger absorbs sound very well and is stable enough to hold the parts in place. The double sided tape is sold by Tesa (a German brand) to be used to even hold mirrors at the wall. It is sold at home improvement stores.

The top engine got the new motor, the bottom one is unmodified Athearn SD40.
