Helping Hands

Thank you for your very generous assessment of my abilities, Dave.

I was sure that I had done a weathering thread here, but I can find no trace of it: must've been over at the old place. It may still be there, but the pictures are gone, so it will be of little use. I'm not sure that I have any particular skills, especially when it comes to painting. It's generally a task that I do because I have to, but I don't really enjoy it. If it turns out well, I enjoy the results, though. Misngth
For most of us, the biggest obstacle to not being able to do something is our reluctance to even try. I'd consider throwing something together on weathering, but just not right now, as I've got a lot on my workbench, both for others and for myself. When that's under control, I'll see if I can come up with something helpful. Goldth

Hello---there's no need to stop at the Leetown coaling tower this time as a trio of Montreal Locomotive Works diesels heads a manifest freight east to Port Maitland

Hello Everyone---with the seaway closed for the winter, grain extras consisting of solid blocks of outside braced boxcars and covered hoppers are a common sight through Leetown. With the heavy grades east of Leetown ahead, these trains usually require a helper engine. Here we see "Beeg Boy'' waiting to give this train a push up the hill

Hi Matt----you're going to need a lot of grain cars to service that facility Eek Here's another grain extra that has just arrived at Leetown from Port Arthur. The train is waiting on the mainline for a helper engine to assist with the heavy grades ahead.

S-3-A Mike 3736 is ideally suited for the task ahead

Slowly, but steadily, I'm collecting Accurail and Train Miniature outside braced cars to make the grain consists. My goal is to build up two consists of 8 cars. I was curious if CN used hoppers for that purpose in the 50's. I'll have to do some searches...

Quebec City Bunge elevator (ex-Quebec Harbour Commissionner) is still one of the largest in Eastern Canada. Building it full scale would require more than 18ft at least! The original structure from the late 19th century still stand is reminescent of Parry Sound/Depot Harbour which was conneccted directly with Quebec City back in the day with the short live Great Northern of Canada Railway.

There's a grain consist at each 1-2 days during winter, thought CPR only pulled 2 trains so far this year! CN got all the traffic! Thumbsup
