New Paint, Decals, and sometimes a little bit more.

G'day All,
I thought I might start a thread that features photo's of model freight cars where we have simply stripped off the factory paint, repainted and then decalled, with perhaps a bit of body work/bashing along the way. This will not only show off our handy work but also, I hope, inspire others to do the same. In my experience such posts also provide information to other modellers on the variety of decal manufactures and their products that are `out there'. If each photo could have a short paragraph with it describing the model, paints used, decals applied etc. If there are a few steps involved in the 'little bit more' perhaps a basic photo in this stream and then a link to a posting in "Scratchbuilding and Kitbashing - All Scales". I hope to have such an example posted in the next few days.
The following freight cars are `work horse models' for use on either a switching layout (Tropicana car), or as `runners' on a Lehigh Valley 1950's-60's train I am making up for use at Train Shows with my T-TRAK modules, therefore the 3 foot rule applies and exact to prototype car numbers are not always the case, although I will try to get close if only a reasonable effort is needed.

Tropicana 40ft reefer/insulated boxcar. Basic Atlas/Bachmann 40ft insulated plug door boxcar. Spray can painted orange using both Tamiya and hardware store spray cans. Large decals and reporting marks from Microscale Tropicana set, dimensional data cobbled from old Walthers set. Tropicana never had 40ft cars, and what they have are reefers, not insulated cars. However size requirements on the switching layout requires 40 footer's.

Nickel Plate Road. Old Atlas/Model Power steel boxcar. Hardware store spray can box car red, brush paint black on roof. Lettered with C-D-S dry transfers and Walthers dimensional data.

Lehigh Valley. Microtrains outside sheathed wood boxcar. Hardware store spray can box car red. Decals form Lehigh Valley Caboose set plus Walthers dimensional data sets.

Lehigh Valley. Old Atlas/Model Power steel boxcar. Hardware store spray can box car red. Decals from Lehigh Valley Caboose set plus Walthers dimensional data sets.

M.K.T. - "the Katy". Old Atlas/Model Power wood boxcar. Hardware store spray can yellow with a light cover of Tamiya acrylic brushed on. Decals from an old set of Walthers `Alphabet' that seemed to do the job. The `dashes' between the M, K, & T are capital `i's cut in half. Walthers dimensional data set. Got to rework that roof walk!!!!

If anyone wants to add similar photo's please feel free to do so.
