What are the things you hate to do in model railroading?

I have recently learned that a short circuit can be a real pain in the, well we won't go there. Two weeks ago my system shut down. After a couple of days I finally discovered the cloth around the roller in my center line car was mysteriously gone. Oh I do have a mouse problem. Last night I went out to run some trains and another short somewhere.

It is fixed.

I just discovered a new thing I hate: Humbrol Decalfix! What a useless crap... recommanded by the useless guy at my proverbial useless LHS (praying they go under ASAP to let place for more decent shops). I recently used up my first Solvaset bottle (bought back in 1998 when I was still a teen). I had mixed feelings toward this stuff but it still gave me years of reliable service. Went to the ULHS to find out they just had this "decalfix". Sounded like what I needed and then started working with it tonight. I was hoping to finish decalling a pair of modified Accurail plug door reefers. I was naive... Not satisfied by not working it all, the d*** thing leaves white residues that can be hardly wiped out. Plan water probably sticks and snuggles decals more than this thing. I suspect they just bottled water ans decided to sell it to make money.

I should have stuck with my first idea and order, as ALWAYS, my train stuff over the net... It's what I get for trying to save a little bit on shipping cost and speed up the process! I often hear people saying that ordering isn't as good as checking up the material in store... Let me say they never set a foot in those LHS I'm used to know (mainly run by crooked people who probably didn't smile since 2 decades except the last time they rip off someone!)...

Then again, I have been extremely satisfied with my local Hobby Shop for the last 25 years. The owner is a model railroader, the founder of the modular group I'm a member of, and a friend.

Your signature is a golden rule!

Having a real model railroader owning a shop is a blessing. It's been a long time since I couldn't chat with a seller that could really help me and understand what I'm was trying to achieve.

Well, thats a really good question "What do I hate to do in Model Railroading?"

I have to say the custom fitting of metal handrailing.....VERY intense work, and VERY precision, takes a bit of concentration to accomplish and look good both at the same time.

Now, I'm not talking about adding "grab irons" those aren't bad, its all the handrailing that goes around the sills of the diesels.

I actually enjoy, the steam loco boiler railings and such but the cab handrailing depending on the locomotive, those can be a pain too!
