Thanks Wayne, I think it's been a decade since I worked on such a large scenery area. It's very rewarding, each thing you had visually pays off. After seeing the result this evening, we decided to revert back to our first intention and scrapped the idea of a small industrial district in the vicinity. Cement pland and brick industry are moved somewhere else, leaving the place for a nice and long tortuous run sandwiched between St. Lawrence River and the Canadian Shield.

More pictures to come tomorrow, we did some railfanning after the "work". And this time, in late 80s, early 90s.

As promised! We did some railfanning in Charlevoix yesterday, back somewhere in early 1990s, before the line was operated by Charlevoix Railway (nowadays Le Train du Massif, as touristic venture). The consist we saw was the typical eastbound empties train en route to Donahue's Clermont papermill. Unfortunately, a pair of GP-40W replace the M420s, probably sent back to Montreal for maintenance. Interestingly, our train pulled a Difcom dump car loaded with rocks. I guess they still have to do some roadbed maintenance since the last washout. We were surprised no woodchip cars or J.M. Huber lime tank car were in sight. Maybe next time. Pictures were taken at Les Caps on Canadian National's Murray Bay Subdivision, east to Quebec City.

Enjoy the ride as much as we did! It's great to go back and delve into your childhood memories.

I really like what you're doing with that run along the river and the bluffs behind. Reminds me of scenes south of the Twin Cities along the part of the Mississippi that expands into Lake Pepin. Thumbsup

That looks great, Matt. That sinuous curve is a perfect spot for railfanning. Thumbsup Thumbsup

I agree with what the other have said…phenomenal modeling and photography.

Seeing those CN wide cabs (another favorite of mine) alongside the mountain, I can just imagine the drone of the diesel engines, reverberating in the air as they labor to pull their load.

A great scenery. I like the gently swing of the curve.

Thank your all for your encouragement.

@GEC: This kind of shot makes me want to move forward the layout to late 70s!!! (not that much of a stretch since it was relatively similar to the late 50s and most major industries were still in place and strong).

It was and still is! No wonder many tourist trains found there way there. It is said to be the most scenic track in Eastern Canada. But this line is dangerous and the track always subject to landslide and washout. Both M420 once ended upside down in the river in late 80s/early 90s. One was a total loss, the other one burned down few years after!

I'm praying for a company to make a RTR M420 in the upcoming years... Wide cabs and canadian prototypes seems to be popular nowadays (SD40, GP38-2W, GP40W, M630). I pray for this day to happen.

Nice work! I've used cereal card stock to model a couple buildings myself. Easy to work with and readily available in my house.

You're the very one that started me to work seriously with this material. So far, I've built two stations (well, one and half!). When well braced, they make outstanding structures. The texture also works the best for wood. I'm intending to continue to use it whenever needed. At some point, you find out using readily available paper, cardboard and wood is better than wasting money on plastic stuff. Just like brick cards often looks far better than plastic ones.

I'll probably post some WIP pictures in the scratchbuilding forum.

We will hold an operation session next weekend. Some guest asked to bring their motive power and some rolling stock. It was then decided to make the layout look a little bit more 60s-70s. It wasn't hard at all and was a good occasion to think over places that doesn't make sense anymore. Anyway, the layout was always design that it could change era at will.

Here's the updated track plan. Nothing fancy! ;-)
