Yesterday, we completed the yard lead at Bassin Louise. The grain elevator is now operable.

We also reused the old grain elevator parts to build a cement plant mock up à la "Port Maitland GERN".

I'm still not sure about using large central silos...

Hey Matt,
I like the look of the mock up large cement facility. I think the larger silos look good. I'm also wanting to get some of those green Penn Central covered hoppers!

A lots of work on the layout yesterday to build the cement plant. We started at 10:30 AM and finished at 11:00 PM. Almost non-stop work.

Most structures were built using cheap Life-Like Mount Vernon Mfg. for overhead structure, various ABS pipes, Masonite and a modified scratchbuilt styrene loading bay from a previous project.

A mock up with the ABS 3 1/2" pipes for the loading bay.

The second group of silos and the scale.

The completed plant. If follow loosely Villeneuve's now-demolished plant. Lots of details, paint and weathering not done, but at least the structure is usable and visually acceptable.

I really like the whole complex but this prototype angle is my favorite shot. Looks great! Thumbsup

Thanks Ralph! It's my favorite shot too. This industry isn't that large, but this central structure makes it look huge.

Thanks GEC! I have a fourth C424, but that would have been overkill! Icon_lol I always found Alcos to perfectly fit a heavy industry setting.

Here's an updated plan of the cement plant area.

On the right side will be the mining equipment garage. On the wall, Citadel Bricks non-served warehouse will make a nice backdrop (the real brick factory was located beside Villeneuve cement plant). Only one siding, but lots of activity.

Harbor track plan haven't been updated yet. The only difference is the engine house siding. We only built one.

We completed some detail at the harbor engine house (inspection pit) and added twin stacks to the boiler house.

Some concrete conlumns were added inside the loading bay at Ciment Saint-Laurent to support the four large cement bins over it.

A general view of Villeneuve. At left is Ciment Saint-Laurent plant, at right on the wall is Brique Citadelle. At left, the front lot with the garage will hold Construction du Saint-Laurent various mining and construction machinery.

Mock up for Brique Citadelle is now completed. I used various spare parts and will try to make something out of it. I couldn't find any picture of their plant, but I still have some blurry childhood memories of the long one-storey building and the overpass bridge linking it to the clay unloading building.

This one's for Doc Wayne! Big Grin

I also ordered a new CNR Bachmann GP7/GP #1725 to complete the pair. I already had detail parts for them. Probably a project this winter. I intend to equip them with the large barrel headlight they had when ordered in the 50s. If I follow the specs when they were still numbered in the 1700s, I should only add the winter hatch. Maybe I should go unprototypical and add the exhaust extensions, sunshades & radio antenna to get a more familiar CN look.

Matt, who makes the CN style spark arrestors now? I think I used up the only Juneco ones I had.

Check Miniatures by Eric catalog, he makes mainly CPR and CNR diesel/steam details. It still possible to find the Juneco parts.

Resumed work on Brique Citadelle plant this weekend. I bashed the DPM walls to look a little bit more like the prototype i.e. the ventilator and the round windows.

It's been a while.

Fellow club members send me this picture today. They started to assemble the Bunge grain elevator. It shows well the sheer size of this structure. No selective compression was applied, it's the entire thing in 1/87.
