Does it matter what manufacturer? Athearn Blue Box, Atlas, etc.?

Only real difference between a GP9 & GP7 is horsepower so either handrail set will work. So do you need/want Athearn metal ones or anyone else s plastic ones. A friend of mine uses Athearn metal ones on locos he takes to module shows.

I guess it really dont matter if its plastic or metal does it? Also it was a blue box item i got at a flea market for 2.00$.
