Hi there,
Finaly I made some newer shots of my in progress layout.I´ll start on the lower level with Chetwynd,BC.
Now entering the southend of the yard with the station and freightshed.
the northend of the yard with the tracks splitting north to Fort Nelson (left track) and east to Dawson Creek (right track).
The Track to Fort Nelson will be ending in a hidden Staging under the Chetwynd Yard.
The tracks to Dawson Creek will first arrive at Sundance Siding (milepost 12 of the subdivision)

First time I build this area I called it Tremblay with a Grain elevator and some other buildings but wasn´t happy with that. So I decided to build the Sundance siding.Below that there willbe some trackage of the line to Fort Nelson...
Next is the Helix to the upper level

Part 2 of the tour.
The helix build. On top of it is a farm scene. There will be some buildings, dirt roads, fields fo wheat and more.
Following to tracks the next place will be the wood trestle over the Kiskatinaw River. The bridge will be scratchbuild from photos I found of the prototype bridge.
Leaving the bridge and going around the next curve you will enter Dawson Creek. The chaos you see will be the planer mill at Dawson creek in the future, the first buildings of the Dawson Creek area.Entering the Yard there will be the #No.3 Elevator building and the TOFC ramps...

Along the back of the Dawson Creek yard will be some other grain facilitys.Today some of them are gone but I model the early 70´ so they will still be there. Also there will be the station and the freighthouse. Both buildings will be scratchbuild.

This will finish the second part of the layout tour.

Now up to the third and last part of the layout tour.
Leaving the yard area and entering to Dawson Creek. This area is mostly freelanced but based on google maps pictures etc of that area...there will be some houses and other buildings,a mill complex and more.On thing I wan´t to capture is the view on one Photo I found on the net.But more of that later...
Left to the window will be the scene with the row of elevators.I started with the first scratchbuild elevator. There´s a siding for the elevators and the main will go straight against the backwall of the room. Two spurs will leave the main, one to a lumber dealer and the other to a team track or another railserved building...
This will be the end of the line.It could be switched without the liftout in front of the entrance door in place...

I could run some trains around the layout without any bigger problems and the upper level with the Dawson creek area was a lot of fun to switch cars around.I´m very happy with that and started to install the masonite for the backdrops and some other things...found one bad turnout in the former tremblay section on the lower level but I started a major rebuild of that part so this will be fixed soon.
I´m running with the Digitrax Super chief and made for sections on the layout. So I could run some trains on the upper level while I´m working on the lower level....
I´m still not really happy with the lower level. There is a staging on the north end of Chetwynd but I don´t have any room for a staging on the south side...this develops maybe as a problem in operation...In Chetwynd trains coming from the south will set out empty cars for Dawson Creek and go on to the north maybe with some loaded cars from DC set into the train into the hidden staging.Problem is that trains from the south have no staging to come from into Chetwynd.
And trains from the north(staging) will couple loaded cars from DC into the southbound train but don´t have tracks to go south...I hope you´ll understand my problem....But eventually I´ll have an idea for that problem...I´ll ask that in another thread...

So this is how the layout looks today. It´s still a lot of work to do for me but it´s always fun to work on that thing...
All comments are very appreciated.
Thanks for looking,

Cheers,Chris

Hi there,
painkiller,I hope I could catch the look and feel that BC-Rail gave to me in videos, books and pictures....IT´s still a long way to go but I´m on my way in small steps...I wan´t to delete all issues I´ll get while I´m switching trains....The upper deck works fine, the lower deck,hm ok,we´ll see...

Regards,Chris

Hi there,
made some progress over the last days on the rebuild project. The Benchwork is finished and I started with the backdrops and tracklaying...
The track in the front will be the line to the north staging. It comes down behind the low backdrop and makes its turn on the lowest level of the helix.
I test installed the wood for Sundance Siding. You´ll get a Idea how the scene will look when it´s been finished.I also testinstalled the fascia.

When the tracks are installed on the staging entrance I´ll start with the scenery for this area....
I hope to make some progress this week to get the construction finished.

Any comments are very welcome.

This is a major endeavour! Very interesting to see an entire subdivision with so many locale. The shear quantity of grain elevators in itself is far to be only an anecdote, I like it.

Hi there,
Matt, thank you.It also seems that those GP-40 will travel a long way on the rails Wink

Made some progess on the scene with some foam scenery and also tested running a train to the end of line...worked out nice and I think it will be looking nice when the scenery and lights are in.

next I´ll have to paint the backdrop and go on with scenery.I´ll go back to the basement later today and hope to get some work done...also have a free weekend so I´ll do some work downstairs. It´s raining outside so time is best used on the railroad.
Any comments are very welcome, thanks for looking,

WS makes a tub of stuff that dries to match the foam. (I forget the name.). They make another scenic paste that is like latex paint but it doesn't seem to take paint -- needs to be pre-coloured. I use either of them to hide cracks or fix carving errors.

What I found is that hot-wire tools don't go through latex paint!

Hi there,
thanks for the comments....So while I was waiting for the plastercloth to dry on this portion of the layout I started to develop a solution for my northend staging problem.....
First thing to do was to remove the small townscene around the corner of Chetwynd....

I made a small plan with Anyrail to for a more prototype scene with the large Planer Mill....
http://binged.it/1t5dPhsThis is a link to a bing photo of the area...
Started to lay down some track and spread some buildings around to see how it will look and I think It´s okay....I also made some minor changes to the tracks on this side of the yard.I´ll post some pictures of that tomorrow.
Most of the buildings of the townscene will get a new place in Dawson Creek...so more to come later....

Any comments are very appreciated.
Thanks for looking,
Cheers,Chris
