Found Grimes Line a great looking HO switching shelf layout in my research, thought I'd share the link.

Very nice layout. Excellent details. Lots of possibilities for switching industries
Not sure how one would deal with the backdrop perspective where roads and structures seem to slant down, but that seems minor when the entire layout is taken into consideration. Thank you for sharing the website with us.

He is stretching Mindheims concept a little further. In all very interesting layout as he does use the space to do something that is manageble, especially if you donn't have, like most of us modest funds and not that many people as crew to run the layout. I like the idea of a typical ex branch line turned in to industrial track as you get by smaller fleet of Engines and freight cars and having them very realistic as possible. The the idea of having smaller power and shorter trains makes whole thing very realistic. I am a fan of big pwer but can never be able to justify them on the rather limited space I have so a Geep a few cars is the thing for me. About the background, it is hard to say as you need to see it person. many uses clever angles to get it right as the camera sees things in 2D istead of the Eye that sees things in 3D.

It is a very good and very interesting layout indeed. The backdrop shows a problem that might be impossible to solve. The little video "Final Presentation" has been taken from a very low angle. At that video the road on the background looks like perfect while the photos have been taken more elevated. I believe perfect perspective transition from fore to background can be done for one camera position only.
Anyhow, that is a limitation without a solution and the layout with it's fore to background transition is a very good one!

I agree with you Reinhard. Using photo backgrounds with Buildings can be a Little tricky in large scale also because of Lightning of the layout and also considering of the height of the viewers...

Agree with all the comments about backgrounds. My take on this is if it's my home layout something plain that doesn't draw attention is better as it isn't really what my focus of attention when operating. At an exhibition its expected more I think for it to all gel together more as people watch it as a vista. Of course many layouts only look their best when they are photographed and the point of perspective is controlled. Outside of that point the perspective isn't right.
With peninsulas it's not possible to have a backdrop unless it's double sided with the backdrop down the center but personally I don't like that as you still have a corner in the sky at the end of the background.
All in all I really like the feel of this layout and will be buying the GMR 2015. It's inspired me to drop a lot of my track work and have a simpler design on my new layout. I just hope I can improve my skills to get the look I want!

Kinda dissapointed that he used some ground foam for grass areas when their is static grass avaliable :cry: ,other than that he really has a talent for making objects,scenery look realistic,just like "faraway" does.
